Time to retire Ryan. The mind is willing, the body isn't capable any more.

The Penguins got fleeced in that Kunitz trade.

I'd love for the Canucks to put a claim in on him just to make him the water boy.

The Ducks turned him into Visnovsky, so even then, no. Whitney was always a good player, his career has been totally destroyed by freak injuries.

From the way he's been playing, I don't even know if he'd get that right!

Word in Edmonton is that Whitney was more interested in golfing, lifestyle than he was hockey. Hockey was a "job" not a passion. Commitment issue.

He hasn't been the same player since his ankle injury three years ago.

Are you kidding? Kunitz has amazing chemistry with Crosby and has been an extremely useful and cap-friendly player for them. This trade and the Goligoski for Neal trade are the best moves Pittsburgh has made.

Standard procedure in Edmonton:
It's all sunshine and roses until the player starts playing poorly, and then it's a full campaign on how they kick old ladies and smoke crack with Toronto mayors

He has zero agility left. Can't pivot, can't accelerate.
Pretty big hit for a guy whose strengths at the NHL level were skating and offence.
I haven't heard anything bad about Whitney's commitment to the game. Not sure where people are getting that from.....It's likely made up.

No, this came from the fans, not the organization.
Fans dont like the oiler organization mantra of crapping on anyone outside of the dynasty.
Whitney though has a terrible rep though. He skated at a few rinks to try and get back into shape and stood out for being an idiot. Lots of other NHLers skate there in the offseason and do not get the same treatment o r reputation. Whitney left the wrong impression for sure

Oh it came from Oilers fans? Sounds legit, like the 80s dynasty comparisons.

Huh?
Just passing along what the word on the street is. Sorry to have offended you by stating rumour as a rumour on an internet message board.
