Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that head coach Kevin Dineen, assistant coach Gord Murphy and assistant coach Craig Ramsay have been relieved of their coaching duties. Goalie coach Robb Tallas, video coach Jason Cipolla and strength and conditioning coach Craig Slaunwhite will remain on the staff.

“After 16 games it was clear that our team needed a change in philosophy and direction,” said Tallon. “We have not met the expectations that we set forth at training camp and it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to ensure that our club performs at its maximum potential. We thank Kevin, Gord and Craig for their hard work and dedication to our organization and the professionalism that they displayed throughout their tenure.”

I believe Warrener said last year that he had talked to a couple of Panthers players that weren't thrilled with Dineen's practice methods. Sounds like he may have lost the locker room last year and just continued this season. That's not a great team but they do have more talent than say the Flames and in that conference wins are easier to come by.

Read rumours from the Panther´s board that Laviolette could be coming in for Florida. Apparently he has family in South Florida too.

It's one thing to have a bad roster and another to look utterly confused on the ice. They aren't playing like a hockey team and I suspect that has been going on for longer than just this season.

turrible coach. TURRIBLE. Hopefully this will help Huberdeau (sp) come back to be the player he was. The panthers do have a few decent players who have shown in the past that they can play....pretty easy to see that something needed to be done.

The new owner seems to want to win. And how many times can you reset the rebuild? The Panthers have been shuffling along the bottom of the standings and acquiring top draft picks for longer than the Oilers. I think they want to turn this thing around now.

There's plenty of talent on that team to get more wins than they are getting, especially in the east. Plain and simple, Dineen deserved to be fired.

Just to add, Viola even sent a letter to the fans explaining the decision and the direction he wants to take the club. I like his attitude.

Expect one of them to be gone by Xmas.

This was a roster that made it into the playoffs 2 years ago with Jose Theodore and Scott Clemensen as their goalies.

They aren't the worst team in the league bad.
