Recommend me high res monitor.
Every once in a while I get the itch to buy expensive electronics for no apparent reason.
I was going to upgrade my desktop to Haswell and all that, then I came to the realization that I don't do anything on my computer that my good Ol' Q6700 and GTX 650 can't handle, so that would be a waste of money.
But regardless of what I do, the one constant is staring at a monitor. Why not some eye candy?
I went to Bestbuy just to look around and was looking at a nice 27" IPS LED that looked pretty shnazzy. But right next to it was an ASUS 27" at 2560x1440, and it made the other one look like trash.
There seems to be a limited selection of High res monitors out there, probably because of demand.
So any suggestions?

What's your budget? 27" 2560x1440/1600 panels can vary in price from $500-$1200.

Personally, I would never game on anything less than 30's. Anything else looks sad if you are going to put in the money for the video cards in the first place.
I find the 30" DELL to be the heavyweight. 2560x1600 and they've last me many years. Here is the newest model that can be had as low as $999 or a little less during their various sales:

Monoprice has their version but obviously (much) cheaper with their associated issues. $600-$700. I don't have a good feel for them though, you should probably do some research before going that route:

Budget is a moving target. Lets say $500 to $800. But patience is a virtue and I'm willing to wait for a sale. (MEMEX had some of their High res monitors in their 30% clearance sale a few weeks back)

Well it's kind of a crapshoot. With a Q6700+650 you're not really going to be gaming on it at all (the 650 would cry itself to sleep playing anything newer than Half-Life 2 at that resolution).
The next question then, is why? They are often used for graphic design and photo editing, so in those regards, the ones with "true" colors are often wanted (Dell, HP and Apple make the best for those purposes), but most users think vibrant displays look better, which is where the ASUS you saw (probably the PB278Q) comes in.
Really, the PB278Q would be the best for you, it's cheap, it's vibrant, it's a bit ghost-y for gaming, but it gets the job done if you just want a bigger, sharper monitor.
$600 on Amazon right now (cheaper than MemEx and NCIX): http://www.amazon.ca/Asus-PB278Q-LED...eywords=pb278q

I dunno, good question. Isn't high resolution the ultimate in eye candy? If you are going to spend 600 dollars on a monitor (like the one you linked) Wouldn't a 600$-700$ high res be the way to go?
I don't game, I do the odd video and photo stuff.
When I saw the two side by side, it reminded me of using a SSD and then an HDD and vowing never to go back.

I picked that monitor up this past summer. I'm happy with it. Memex will price match Canadian competitors (online included). I think I got it for $599 there.

Biggest problem with getting an expensive monitor is needing to get 2 of them.
I tend to get something mid range so I can afford to get 2.
