Great line...

Then it was Curtis Glencross murdering the monkey finishing a nice setup from Matt Stajan.
But this stuff...

No one wants to see a repeat of Gilbert and Savard so hopefully the scratch was more protecting and resting the young Flame, as Baertschi continues to show glimpses of why he was considered the future face of the franchise before this new Sean guy appeared.
Is SO overblown IMO...young guys get sat ALL the time all around the NHL. He had been struggling in both the neutral and defensive zones leading up to his benching. Looks like he responded in a big way because of it, and props to the coaching staff in recognizing what it takes to motivate the young man. No one should be surprised when Monahan gets a turn on the pine at some point ither, as its almost inevitable to happen.

Good stuff though and thoroughly an enjoyable read.

Yeah except a lot of us were paying very close attention to baertschi before the scratch and it didn't look like he was struggling at all. Anyways glad to see him back and hopefully he can keep up the momentum.

Last time Baertschi got benched, he responded with a 10-game point streak...

the forward depth on the Flames is becoming impressive.

The Baertschi- Monahan - Hudler line is the most talented but getting 3rd line minutes.

Backlund as the 4th line centre???!!!

All the thrones washed away in the Flood.

The Wild have benched Granlund on an off for the past two seasons. It's part of the process. The Oilers lack of accountability with rookies is the exception around the league not the norm.

I didn't think he was struggling either, but I think they're really trying to push Bärtschi so that he doesn't end up in a 2nd-3rd line comfort zone. Now is the time to see if he can be more and they feel this is the best way to help him.

Mikael Granlund was rated slightly below Bärtschi and he spent last season between the AHL and the fourth line with the Wild. It really motivated him to work in the off season. He went nuts with his training and he'll be better off for it in the long run. You don't necessarily want things to be easy.

The oilers don't bench their young "stars" because actually playing for the oilers is punishment enough.

Well he's only been in NA for a year but you're right. If you watch Granlund now, you'll see that tough love works on some. Not everyone, but people with character will respond. There was an article somewhere about his off season work and it was really impressive. It's remarkable that he could do so much with his skating and strength in just a few months.

Yeo has also said that they've decided not to micro-manage his game this season as much but I think they just don't need to anymore. The hype was really tough on him last season and the local media turned sour. Russo was sending him back to the AHL even before they'd played any games, but now he's changing his tune as well.

I trust that our coaches are qualified to do the job, so scratching players is something they have far more insight on then I could as a fan. It is part of the process and most likely will be for many young players to come.

Exactly

Sometimes you just have to ask yourself how the other angle would work ...

Baertschi playing well but is benched anyway because Hartly doesn't like talent? Doesn't like young players? Wants to lose his job? Hates Swiss players because of an incident when he coached over there?

No matter who coaches the Flames there is a large contingent of fans that think every vet should sit and every young guy should play every game.

The Dustin Boyd's fall out of the league and low and behold maybe he wasn't the next coming after all.
