Default 3 Days in New York, what shouldn't I miss?

So the wifey is headed to NYC for a conference with work and it just so worked out for 3900 air miles and $200 I'm headed there too so we can make the most out of her free flight and hotel room. We are going to be there October 23-27 staying in Manhattan at the Westin Grand Central.

So I was hoping as always the well traveled folk of CP can give me some advice on what not to miss or where not to waste my time. Looking for things to do, great places to eat and even a bit of shopping so any insight into any of those would be great.

Museum of Natural History, Central Park, visit Grand Central Station, and take in the wonderful architecture if you're into that. You can walk around all day and just be amazed at what a vibrant city it is.

New York is a city that truely never sleeps. Whenever I go, I just walk around for hours and have new sights to see. Impossible to get lost in NYC.

You can pick up a NYC pass (http://www.citypass.com/new-york) if you think you will be covering most of those activities covered. The observatories provide great views of the city.

Catch a broadway show. TKTS booth (located at Times Square) has got pretty good discounts (33%-50% off) on Broadway and off-Broadway shows running that night. I would recommend getting there earlier as I believe the booth opens at 3.00pm and good seats can go by fast. I have been able to pick up Rock of Ages highly recommended if you are into classic rock) and The Phantom of the Opera.

I love the street food. Restaurants are also great all over town for ethnic and non ethnic foods.

Central Park is a nice visit to see the vast difference between the greenery and the metropolitan jungle.

Museums are great if you are into that kind of stuff. I enjoyed Natural History. Was not too thrilled with MOMA, but Modern Art is not my cup of tea.

Have fun in NYC. Great place to visit.

New York is one of very few cities in North America I can imagine wanting to walk around the city centre to see what I find. San Francisco, New Orleans, Quebec City, Boston and Victoria are others. NYC is an awesome place.

Take a hop-on-hop-off tour and attend a Broadway show. Last-minute tickets are available at a booth in Times Square.

I agree that it's interesting, but, unfortunately, it's been closed since Hurricane Sandy.

Momofuku Ko - Takashi - Shake Shack - I thought the Empire State observation deck was much better than Top of the rock... Knicks/rangers game.... Soho is always fun minus weekends... And I thought walking across the Brooklyn bridge was cool. If you are into photography, fulton station is amazing with the lights.... 3 days is so short... If you are on a limited time budget, the MET is out of the question... I would either go to MOMA or Natural history

If you go shopping at any of the major stores, stop by the customer service with your drivers license or passport and you might get a tourist discount. It's anywhere from 10% to 20% depending on the store.

Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Top of The Rock or Empire State Building, Time Square, Central Park, Conney Island, Broadway Show. It's just too many to list and I wish I could be living there.
