Jersey Personalization
Now, I'm sure this is probably the wrong place for this, but I couldn't think of a better place, so if it's wrong I'm totally ok with mods locking it up.
This is a two parter:
1. Where do you guys usually go to get names thrown on a jersey? Where's the best/most affordable place to get it done and how long does it usually take? I have a couple home jerseys, and I figured I'd get a player thrown on one of em, but I really have no idea if there are good or bad places to go.
2. Jersey Fouls: aside from being a sometimes humorous feature on puck daddy, what do you guys think are some of the worst things you've ever seen on a Flames jersey? Or on a jersey you've seen around the Dome in general? I personally always think it's a bit taboo to be still wearing a Phaneuf jersey, but that's the risk you take with setting a name thrown on a jersey. I remember as a kid I always wanted to get a jersey with my name on it, but never did, and now I think I'd feel cheesy wearing it.

Just got my Flames Retro done through the Fan Attic and they did a great job. I think it was 10 days from when I dropped it off to when I picked it up. I managed to get it done during that 25% off sale so it was $67 or so to get it done. Included name and number on the back, number of both sleeves.
As for jersey fouls, I can't speak on that because I probably committed one (to some) with the jersey I just got done. Opted to have 21 instead of 51 on it for Horak which is a number he will never have on that specific jersey. But way I see it, it's your jersey and something you are wearing so put something on it that you like.

I don't have anything to contribute t thi, but really want to know the options.
All I really need is the kit.

I don't have many jersey pet peeves or anything but here are the few for me:
- Grown men should not have a jersey with their own name on it. Kids is all good.
- Any #69 with funny name associated is totally lame.
- Any Flames jersey with name on back like "Oilers Suck" are also lame.
Otherwise, nothing annoys me jersey wise.

If you just want the kit, you can get it from here: http://www.gpcresting.com/kits.htm
They are NHL and NHLPA licensed so it's the real thing. I believe they actually do the jerseys for the FanAttic. I think the kits are $40 or so.

I think you're going to pay the same wherever you go if you want the real numbers and letters because they all have to buy the kits from the league, and it's a flat $89 with the numbers applied (unless you can find someone offering a sale). Flames STHs get a 10% discount on jerseys and lettering from the FanAttic.

Great Plains is where I get all of my jerseys done. I can certainly vouch for their abilities and service. I once wanted to get a blank 70s Mitchell & Ness Sabres jersey customized with Gil Perreault's #11 and not only did they find the perfect colour match, they matched the twill type of the numbers to the logo, they worked with me to get the size and style of the numbers correct and where they should be placed on the sleeves and back. Fantastic experience.
Getting bent out of shape because someone puts something funny or personal on their jersey doesn't make sense to me. They've spent the money, they can do whatever they want. Does it often look kind of ridiculous? Oh my, yes.
I once bought my dad and I similarly matching jerseys with our last name on the back for a hockey road-trip for his 50th birthday. One of the Flames games in New York, a particularly wasted gentleman in the can stopped my dad and went ON (quite seriously) about how amazing XXXXXX was playing tonight. It was fantastic, and since no one on the team wore the number on his jersey, it was even better. The fact that he pronounced our name correctly was incredible...

I've always used the Fanattic for Cresting. Never takes more than 2 weeks, you know its authentic product.
Phanuef is no Jersey Foul, He was one of the Flames top players for 5 years. He spent more time here that Tanguay or Cammaleri have in either of their two combined trips, and nobody gets a hard time for wearing their jerseys.

Jersey fouls for your situation, in no particular order:
-Cresting it with a player from another team. I've seen an Ovechkin Flames jersey at the Dome.
-Cresting it with a Flames player that never wore that style, such as getting Vernon on the new 3rd jersey
-Your own name
-A player's incorrect number
-A phrase such as It was in, Cup Champs, Oilers Suck, etc.
General jersey fouls:
-Wearing a jersey to a game that is not playing that night. If you are going to a Coyotes vs. Kings game, leave the Flames jersey at home. This also goes for wearing a football jersey at a hockey game.
-Tucking in your jersey
-Knock off jerseys
-Half jerseys where one side is one team, and the other is another team

Don't be such a Laydown Larry. People are allowed to have fun with their jersey's if they want.

You can do whatever you want, but that doesn't make it any less of a foul. It's like putting apostrophes where they don't belong. It makes you look silly.

Living in the Torontp area, when I get a chance to see an NHL game odds are the Flames and not participating. It's amazing the people I've meet and the conversations wearing my Flames colours has opened the doors for me.
The horse head Brathwaite jersey is the best when I'm really social and in for a talk.
I couldn't imagine seeing a game without it and having it be as enjoyable of an experience... after all the night will end up costing a few hundred bucks

So what about the whole "Baertschi" vs "Bärtschi" thing? Is the umlat a foul?

I wanted to use the line, "Apostrophes aren't like dicks; you can't just stick them wherever you want". It felt too forced under the circumstances.
After some quick searching on the Internet machine, I found this beauty of a thread that shows the 20 worst jersey fouls in canucks history: http://vansunsportsblogs.com/2013/03...s-fan-history/
This is my favourite picture from it:

I would go with how the name is spelled on the jersey you are wearing. For a Calgary jersey, go with Baertschi. For a Portland jersey, use Bärtschi.
The Canadiens are using accents over letters for the first time this year.

And don't put a C on the front of it. You are not the Captain of the Calgary Flames.

Somebody mentioned the Fan Attic 25% off sale. When was it and is it still on? I have a couple jerseys that I will take in if the sale is still on. Thanks
