Thieves At Maclean Creek

Just a heads up for everyone who uses the staging areas at McLean Creek. On Saturday about 7 vehicles were broken into at the paved loop staging area between 11:00 Am-3:00 PM. Lots of phones and credit cards were stolen. Please remember to either take your valuables with you bury them in the woods or leave them at home. If you were affected by this please contact the RCMP because the more complaints they get the more they are supposed to do patrol in the area. SRD was informed of this incident and will be stepping up their patrol If you see anything that does not look right make sure you report it!.

I think back country thieves are the scummiest of all. Hopefully they find these wayward souls....

I wonder if it's some sort of organized effort, as we have some family friends who were robbed at the Banff Gondola parking lot this weekend, along with 6-7 cars.

One lesson I learned the hard way.... many years ago I had my wallet stolen out of my car while I was at the gym. 3 of us had our wallets stolen out of our cars, and all three of us did the same thing:
- Arrived in parking lot.
- Decided not to bring the wallets in with us
- Put our wallets in our glove compartments.

Somebody was watching and if they saw us hiding stuff, they went into the car. So if you do have to leave valueables in the car, make sure you stash them long before you park.

I think pretty much anywhere in the back country is susceptible . I've been warned by the RC's even when out X-country skiing in K-country.
