Default October 1 - 3 Games - First night of the 2013/14 Season!

MAPLE LEAFS (0-0-0) at CANADIENS (0-0-0)
7:00 PM ET - CBC, RDS

Quote:
The age-old rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs begins another chapter as Canada's two most storied clubs face each other to open the 2013-14 NHL season. It will be the first of five meetings between the teams, but the only one that does not take place on a Saturday night. The Canadiens will host three of the five games this season, with Toronto's Air Canada Centre serving as the venue for the other two.

The Maple Leafs gave the Canadiens some trouble last season, winning three of the five games in the season series, and winning them by a combined margin of 13-2. Toronto won both games played at Montreal's Bell Centre last season.

CAPITALS (0-0-0) at BLACKHAWKS (0-0-0)
8:00 PM ET - NBC SN

Quote:
The Blackhawks and Capitals have gotten familiar with each other during the past two weeks, playing each other twice in the preseason in preparation for the season opener Tuesday at United Center. However, after playing Tuesday they won't see each other again until April 11 at Verizon Center in Washington. That's the second-to-last game of the season for each team.

They did not play each other last season because the shortened schedule precluded Eastern Conference teams from facing Western Conference teams. The last time they played in a meaningful game was March 18, 2012 at United Center. Chicago won 5-2.

JETS (0-0-0) at OILERS (0-0-0)
10:00 PM ET - CBC

Quote:
The Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers didn't meet during the 2012-13 season because the Jets were still part of the Eastern Conference and there was no cross-conference play in the abbreviated 48-game campaign. Their last matchup dates all the way back to Feb. 27, 2012, when a four-goal third period rallied the Oilers to a 5-3 win at MTS Centre. Taylor Hall had the game-winner.

Big story: The Jets were reborn in Winnipeg two seasons ago, and now they're officially back where they belong in the Western Conference, part of the new Central Division. The Oilers, meanwhile, have shifted over to the Pacific and hope the time is now for an impressive collection of young talent to take the next step toward a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs under first-year coach Dallas Eakins.

Go Jets

For the Oilers the road to another disappointing season starts tonight.

Watching the Rehabs and Coilers lose is almost always as awesome as watching the Flames win.

Should be a good night on HNIC.

Just happy to have hockey back after the lockout last year. I plan on watching whatever I can tonight.

I guess we won't see Oiler fans on this board again until the 2014 draft lottery.

Thank goodness for hockey. This place had become a total bitch fest, both in this forum or OT threads.

Thank god.
Super stoked to see Hawks go and win the next 8 Stanley cups in a row. That'll be my game tonight.

When does the Flames season start? Tomorrow or Thursday?

Verizon Center might be the only thing open in Washington by Thursday.
