Props to Cammy and Stajan who say Gio should be the New captain.
Many haters of Gio on here last year so......your thoughts???

I think Gio will be the next captain, he's a good choice.

Are you asking who I'd pick, or who I think the team will pick?
The story on the Flames website with Hartley saying they polled the players, management, and owners and had a virtually unanimous decision pretty much confirms it will be Gio ( http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=682352). At the STH event in May, Feaster said the players overwhelmingly chose Gio and he sounded like he supported the choice as well.
As for who I'd pick, I would also go with Gio, but Glencross would be a close second choice.
I'd go with Gio for the C; Glencross and Cammalleri with the A's, and maybe add Stempniak and Stajan with A's as well rotating between the four of them. I'd also give consideration to Brodie and Galiardi for A's.

Out of the 3 i would pick Gio.
Even though Cammi is saying the right things right now, i stil think he is moved at the deadline.
Glencross to me seems to whine a lot.
That leaves Gio. My only problem with Gio being Captain is that he is in for a rough year. To me he is a good 3rd d-man. He is our top d-man and i have as of yet seen him be able to handle it. Then if playing him higher in rotation was bad enough, Wideman will probably be his partner to start the season. I don't see him being able to handle it. I like Brodie a lot but i don't think he should start the season on top pairing,he needs time. Granted if Brodie does not start on top pairing then one of his d partners is Russel, SOB, or Butler. Yikes.
So in coclusion, i think Gio is the best fit for Captain, but at the same time he is going to have a lot on his plate this year even if he was not Captain.

Personally I'd like them to wait a year, but I guess we don't really have that guy we know will be able of taking the captaincy next year, so that idea probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
It probably has to be Giordano by default though, as Cammalleri likely won't be here next year and Glencross might not be the best mentor for our younger players. I wouldn't oppose if it went to Glencross, but Giordano comes off as the true professional on the team imo.

I think respect needs to happen in the room before we move forward....Iggy's gone folks and he aint comin back.
Lets move on already.
Other past Flames that wore C's and A's moved onto other teams and continued to lead .... Roberts, Neiwy, Loob Now a highly respected Euro manager.......weve been lucky have leaders in Calgary.
Others like Otto and Berezan and Gelly and wow the list goes on....quite a list of Alumni that continue to contribute here

Not sure if pointing out that Gio had a poor season makes people haters but other than that I can't remember any Gio haters on here at all let alone "many."
I think Gio is the obvious choice and can't really think of anyone else close right now. Glencross takes way to many shifts off and his selfish penalties/sulking after missing a chance is not great for a captain. Cammy takes way too many games off, let alone shifts, and although he says the right things not sure his actions on the ice are great for a captain, plus he should be traded before end of the season anyways.
Brodie and Monahan would be the two likely long term guys to take a look, Monahan for sure should a likely Captain at some point, but obviously way too young/inexperienced.
I would likely go Gio as C with Cammy/Stajan/Glencross rotation with the A's.

Gio no doubt he lays it all on the line. He went from not drafted to a top 4 D. He wants to be here and is highly respected in the room no doubt about it

from what I have heard Gio is more of a vocal person where glencross tends to be more like Iginla and leads by example. I think at this point you need a pretty vocal person because there will more the likely be more downs than ups. Definitely Gio for me.

I vote for Gio!
I heard Glencross has been a loser with fans wanting autographs. It was also mentioned that someone feels he is a whiner. Not sure if we want our 'young guns' following that mode.
Gio is a champ. Also there is a rumour he threw Phanuef down some stairs and broke his ribs right before he was traded. Even if that is not true i choose to believe.
