Default Advances

Hey Guys,

As all 27 GMs have now joined the league I'm planning to do the next advance on Monday September the 16th in the morning.

I'm also planning to change the frequency of the advances this year. The plan is to do an advance every Monday morning that would span 2 weeks of the season. This would include 5-9 games. I really like the idea of having a consistent advance on the same day every week (instead of changing every advance).

If you have any feedback on either of the points made above please let me know.

i like the advance period. not sure on the 16th (monday not 17th), just because not sure when EA will fix the trade screen and i can't get in at all. no android app either.

I'm down with having the advance once a week, always on the same day. Gives you a good solid week to organize your games.

I'll go with the majority on when the leagues next advance takes place, I'm easy either way.

I am very much in support with the notion of the advances happening once a week on the same day, hockey players love their routines.

i would just like to reiterate that i don't want advance to go through until at least a day or two after EA fixes the trade screen. i know some people have been able to occasionally get in, but i'm about 1 for 20 now (tried again this morning before work)

Is it preventing you from actually making trades? Do you have an iPhone or iPad that you could use? This year's app is much better, it allows you to view, reject, and accept trades from your phone.

Because we don't know if this is even on their list of bugs (correct me if I'm wrong though), or what their timeframe would be on fixing it.

The trade screen won't even load. I've myself not been able to get in at all. I do have the app on my phone but the person I want to try and make a trade with doesn't.

I also like the fact that we would advance on the same day every week. I remember last year, everybody always had to ask when advance was, this way, everyone should know. Be easier

^ I remember being able to use it like, 2 days ago. I don't know if its a recent bug, or if its just happening on certain systems.

But I agree, its frustrating, because the trade screen is the best way to crunch the numbers of a trade, just because it shows you every little piece of detail, whereas the app does not. (This is why EA should have done it with a web portal instead of an app that's only available on one platform, but I digress)

Do you guys know if EA has acknowledged this trade screen thing as a bug? I looked at the EA forums briefly, and didn't see anything.

And if EA hasn't even publicly acknowledged that they're working on it, it could be months before the problem is fixed. Can we make do with the app?

Last year there were two patches and two tuner updates within 10 days of the release.

I'd be willing to hold out for the next patch potentially. But if that patch doesn't fix the trade screen then I think we would need to keep the league moving.

i don't have an apple....pretty sure i can't be the only one who has android and not apple = no app which sucks since i basically can't make trades

For those who can't access the trade screen and don't Apple products I would suggest you request the other GM to send the trade request. The request will be available through the mailbox.

In the case where both GMs can't access the trade screen or don't have Apple products, we will need to hope EA patches the issue ASAP.

Also, does anyone know how to log an issue like the trade screen freezing?

Lol, ask any one of my friends, and one of the first things they will tell you is that I'm an Apple-hater.

We had an old iPhone sitting in a drawer somewhere that no one was using anymore, so that's what I'm using for the NHL app.

Last night, I had the trade screen freeze up on me, but when I rebooted the PS3 and tried again, it worked fine.

Maybe when you make your next trade, have the other GM send the trade offer, and then see if you can at least go in and accept it on your PS3. Because from what I understand, it only affects the "Make Trade" screen, not the Messages screen, correct?

The only drawback being, if your PS3 freezes on the Make Trade screen, and if you have no app, there's no way for you to compare the players involved and crunch the numbers. But you could always ask the other GM to provide you with this info.

yeah, but it makes it so hard to trade (propose/counter-propose). i also have an old iphone sitting around, but it's like the first gen and i don't think i can get the app on there lol

For what it's worth, I did see a thread on the EA forums about the lack of an Android version of the app. I added my comments, and an EA rep responded saying that unfortunately this year, it's iOS only and that they can look at it for the future.

Which is basically the same bull#### answer we got last year.

So I sent a PM to the EA rep in question, and gave him feedback to take to his developer team, at the very least, for NHL 15. I basically told him that just because they can say that they have a fancy NHL app for iOS, they're not reaching 100% of their user base.

Obviously, for them to add Android as a platform costs time, money and resources, but my reply was, they can charge a few bucks more for the game, and they can make that up.

But the easiest way, from a development standpoint (as well as a financial point of view) to reach 100% of their GMC/HUT user base is to not do this remote access through an app, but through a website/portal instead. That way, it can be used on any device, and you're not just restricted to one platform. Plus, as a software developer, I can tell you that it's much easier to work with web pages than it is on the mobile side of things.

I asked that he at least take what I was suggesting to his dev team and get back to me with their thoughts, if possible. I even offered to sign a non-disclosure agreement and make the bloody NHL 14 Android app for them if they wanted, that's how much it pisses me off.

He replied saying that he'll find out who from the NHL team is in charge of the mobile app, and he'll do their best to bring my suggestions to them. He did say that he expects them to be super busy, as the same studio is releasing FIFA in a couple of weeks, but he promised to do his best.

I'll send him a reply about the trade screen freezing as well. Hopefully at the very least, this will push them enough to think about more than just iPhone next time.

Followup to my last post...I also have a first-gen iPad sitting at home running iOS 5, and the app requires iOS 6. If that phone is a 3GS (like mine is), it'll run iOS 6.

But in that e-mail I wrote to EA, I also asked him if it was possible to at least get the NHL 14 app compatible with iOS 5, so I'll see if I get a reply on that.

Can we please push back the leagues first advance to possibly Tuesday? I'm scheduled to play the Leafs who text+ me that he would be away this weekend and I was allowed to play his team against the CPU but unfortunately he didn't enable that function before he left.

My second game is against the Sabres who I've tried very hard to set up a time but I'm still hoping to play him sometime tomorrow as we keep missing each other but I'm confident that if you allow us the extra time we will be able to get our games played.

Please push back the advance deadline.

I am going to advance the league tomorrow am. I know that this isn't perfect for everyone but we are going to begin the weekly advances tomorrow. Everyone must set there team to CPU.
