Default GAME 10 : Battle of Alberta - Part Deux (Rematch)

On Labour Day game, Stampeders dominated 3 quarters of the game only to let the Eskimos comes back and scored 27 points in the 4th quarter. The game was decided on that last 3rd down gamble by the Eskies. Eskimos gambled on a 3rd down but failed when Reilly threw a pass to his receiver instead of running the ball himself. The game shouldn't even been that close.

Hopefully Stampeders learned from that lessons and goes to the game all fired up.

OFFENSE :

QB Kevin Glenn started the game but could not finished due to injury. He was good during the time he was on the helm though. Backup QB Bo Levi Mitchell finished the game for the Stamps. Can't blame him for the almost disastrous 4th quarter he didn't really get a lot of chances to play in the 4th due to some turnovers. #1. turnover was a first down catch by Brad Sinopli only to fumbled the ball. Eskimos recovered and they made the Stampeders paid by scoring a TD after that turnover. #2. special team got caught sleeping. Shaw kicked an on-side kick and Eskimos recovered because Stampeders special team was daydreaming. None of them even attempted to get the ball. Eskimos later on. #3. Jabari Arthur caught a pass for a first down but instead of going down, he was still fighting to get more yardage. Eskimo player stripped the ball from him and they ended up scoring another TD after.

Aside from those meltdowns on the 4th quarter. Stamps offense was good lead by WR Maurice Price. Price, named the CFL Offensive Player of the Week with 5 catches for 165 yards scoring 3 TD (66 yards, 42 yards and 33 yards). WR Brad Sinopli caught 5 passes for 80 yards and 1 fumble. From what I heard, Sinopli was practicing as a QB this week. He will be the emergency QB if something happen to Mitchell and Drew Tate.

DEFENSE:

Front Seven was dominant all game. They put Mike Reilly on his back pretty much everytime the Eskimo offense had the ball. Led by the Sack Master DE Charleston Hughes with 4 tackles and 3 QB sacks. Hughes was also instrumental nearing the end of the game. Charleston Hughes was named CFL Defensive Player of the Week. LB Juwan Simpson also had a great game with 5 tackles, 2 QB sacks and 1 knockdown passes. DB Fred Bennett had 3 tackles, 2 INT but he fumbled one of them and one he returned for 42 yards. CB Brandon Smith and Jamar Wall was actually doing great earlier on limiting Fred Stamps and Cory Koch. Both Koch and Stamps started catching the ball after Jamar Wall went down on injury.

SPECIAL TEAM :

Aside from Kicker Rene Paredes reaching a career milestones 100 CFL field goal (ended up with 101) and P Rob Maver punting, special team was not good. Special Team coverage couldn't tackle while Special Team blocking was in it's worse. It seems like everytime Larry Taylor gained some good yardage, it gets called back because of the holding or illegal block penalty. Blocking schemes need to improve.

Play of the year Sewell handing the ball back. Amazing amazing play. We needed to see it 50 times and hopefully another 75 more.

Yes TSN, the Esks almost had the greatest comeback in CFL history. Almost. We get it.

Mitchell looks very timid, or Dave us calling a very safe game.

I can just see Wally Buono giggling after O'Neill misses that field goal.

Hugh O'Neill pulls a Grant Shaw and the Eskies settle for a rouge.

Mitchell started off looking confused too last game but he bounced back as the game goes. I can see the same thing tonight.
