I would probably agree but that is a horrible list so not a ton of competition.
What happened to the Czechs? I would take the Flames defense over their list and I think we all know how I feel about guys like Wideman, Butler and SOB.

Whether he makes it or not congrats to him. Not easy getting an Olympic invite.

Haha. That is just awesome.
Apparently he had more than a point per game in his last season in the Czech league.

Wow a defence like that and Klesla doesn't get an invite or shortlist? Bit of a surprise there, he is one of the few Czech shutdown D out there still playing.
As for Horak, he's 22 and cracked an NHL squad out of his first training camp and now an Olympic hopeful. Even if he doesn't make the Czech team this year, he has accomplished more at 22 then most players will ever get to. And if I recall, he was one of their better players at the WJC Tournaments.

Well, I would argue 2.5 Flames were invited. Roman "Remember Me Quietly" Cervenka is also on that list. Obviously based on last year's performance in the NHL.
Also, Petr Nedved? The funny thing is, I think he claimed refugee status or something and went to play for Team Canada in 1994. Interesting how that worked.

Yup. He won a silver medal in 1994 at the Olympics playing for Canada.

If the olympics were on N.A. ice surface rather than European ice surface, I think any NHL regular has a great shot to make the team. While I doubt he makes it, IF Horak starts to progress offensively this season he could make it. We know he's very good without the puck and plays a good defensive game already.

I believe in the Jays.
|
Yeah, Horak's not going to make that team. But it's an honor just to be invited so he should be proud.

Yeah I just looked it up. He was the 8th highest scorer in the league, led the league in PIM, and had twice the points as anyone on his team. Guess he can still play (at least at the pro Czech league level).

Just my quick thoughts on how the team might look
Goalies:
Pavelec and either Neuvirth or Salak
Defense:
Michalek-Zidlicky
Roszival-Hejda
Smid-Polak
Kaberle?
Forwards:
Any combination of the following-Vrbata, Krejci, Michalek, Jagr (yes he can still play), Plekanec, Hanzal, Voracek, Erat, Frolik, Hudler, Tlusty, Sobotka, Elias, Hemsky. This is based on pure talent and not situational play.
That means Horak will have to battle guys like Dvorak, Fleischman, Prospal, Olesz, Novotny, Hertl, Nedved, Ruzicka, Vincour, Cervenka etc....just to be considered for the team. It's too bad he doesn't play defense.

They might like what he can bring in a bottom 6 capacity.
Wow would that ever light a fire under that young man's ass, were he to make it, it would really accelerate his growth.

Hope Cervenka makes it. With a (truncated) year of experience playing against NHL-calibre players, along with his body of work on Olympic ice in the KHL, I think he has a shot.

I'm willing to bet Fleischmann has just as much right to be considered a lock as Hudler, if not more.
Over his past 4 NHL seasons he has 178 points in 244 games (.73 PPG). Over the same time frame ( 5 years, because he spent 1 season in Europe) Hudler has 171 points in 278 games (.62 PPG).
No way is Hudler a lock at this point.

As for Cervenka.....I think he has 90% chance of making the team, Hadamczik likes him.

That team looks terrible. I'd like to see both guys make it; Horak for his development and Hudler for his experience (maybe he lights it up and other teams want him more).

Always fun to see those rosters... lots of players that were formerly fairly highly touted prospects, like Filip Novak, and Lucas Krajicek. Michal Barinka sounds familiar too.
