Seems about right for the head of a multi-billion dollar organization. Easy guy to hate based on his public image but guy gets it done for his bosses, generally.

This seems to come up every couple months or so. Personally, I think his compensation is pretty reasonable given a)Players salaries and b) The fact that he runs a multi-billion dollar corporation/brand.

Agreed. Love him or hate him, it's probably a bargain.

I wonder if his salary is linked to revenues?

I'm just going to echo the previous comments and say that it seems pretty fair to me. He makes quite a bit less than the guys from the MLB, NFL, and NBA so I'd say his salary is probably pretty spot on. Considering the amount the game has grown over the past decade and the fact that he's making less than a million more than he did in 04, it's all gravy.

Probably to the amount of lockouts per decade...

Bit of an overpayment for a guy who's only had 2 good lockouts.

Does this come out of the players share of revenues?

Kidding...

It works out to each team paying him $277,000 a year basically.

I always laugh when people whine/complain about Bettman. He's doing a great job IMO, and I believe I read somewhere that he is the lowest paid out of the big 4 sports.

I actually quite like Bettman. When they interview him on the radio or on TV, he's always been pretty good. Heck, I don't even mind the awkward twitching / shrugging that he does. It's what makes Gary, Gary.

While true, NHL has the lowest revenues of the 4.

Still, he almost seems underpaid.

Yeah, but he's young, so you can overpay a bit now to keep him locked in.

He's only 61 compared to David Stern's 71, or Bud Selig's 79.

Seems awfully high for the head of an unincorporated not-for-profit association.

I guess before people jump on him (may be too late), he is one of the lowest paid commissioners in pro sports.

David Stern - NBA - $10M
Roger Goodell - NFL - $10.9M
Bud Selig - MLB - $18.4M

As well he should be. Hockey doesn't make as much as those other sports. Don't see why he should make the same as the other guys who are all generating more revenue.
