Default Hike ideas

Good morning,

Looking for a few hike ideas for tomorrow/sat. I am taking out 2-3 other guys who haven’t hiked before and looking somewhere along the difficulty of:

• Sentinel Pass
• Burstal Pass
• Barrier Lake Lookout

And in the Canmore/Lake Louise area.

As I have done these hikes very recently, I would prefer something else. I am thinking:

• heart mountain, it is a little quick, but the weather for the weekend is looking pretty terrible, so it might be a good bet.
• Castle Mountain – Backside. Never done it, but I would love to be on the top of castle!

Any other thoughts?

Thank you!

==discussion==
An upper low currently located off of the Washington/Oregon coast
will begin to move inland today. However the forecast models
Are uncertain on the track and timing of this low as the system
crosses the Rockies into Southern Alberta and Montana. Thunderstorms
possibly severe are expected to form in Southern Alberta by early
this evening near the international border before growing upscale
into a larger area of rain that moves slowly northward. Local
rainfall amounts up to 50 millimetres may occur by Friday.

On Friday as the low moves over Northwest Montana, easterly upslope
winds will develop that will aid in maintaining an area of rain over
the foothills.

Latest forecast models suggest that total rainfall amounts will range
from 50 to 75 millimetres before the low moves out of the region late
Saturday.

At this time, the exact location of the heavy rain is uncertain.

See the hiking/backpacking thread, it might have dropped to page 2 but it has alot of great advice.

How athletic are the guys who haven't hiked because heart mountain really is a scramble albeit an easy one rather than a plain hike so judge your friends abilities appropriately.

The Iceline in Yoho up to the high point of the iceline and back makes an excellent day hike. If you want to push a bit further you can do a loop of the iceline, whaleback, Twinfalls, and hike back out the flat twin falls trail but that is a pretty big day hike but it is fantastic.

Mount Beaurgeau is also a great hike, you start at the beargeau lake trail head and hike to the lake then go past the lake up to a pass at the pass you leave the trail and hike the wide ridgeline up to the peak of Mount Beaurgeau. The nice thing about this hike is that if anyone with you doesn't have the energy to get to the summit or the whether has a risk of lightning you can stop at the top of the pass and still have had a great hike with great views.

Thank you for the advice and link. I might as well post which hike we decided on (weather dependent) in this thread since I started it.

Mt. Bourgeau we decided was a little bit long for our taste! Thank you again all!
