Default Big year for Max Reinhart

I'm as guilty as anyone in focusing my attention on the latest and greatest prospect and over looking some of the work being done by guys that have been in the system

Reinhart set a Heat record, eclipsing a much older Kolonos record in doing so.

Had a look at AHL scoring and he's 12th this season, and then dug deeper to find only one guy above him with a similar age.

So what does this season mean for Reinhart's future? Is he still a third line guy or is he progressing further up the roster? Quite a second pro season for the player.

I think a good third liner with a bit of pop who can play all situations and move up the lineup when needed. Agreed he is overlooked

I think this is a case of really good AHL player and a bottom 6 NHL player. From his NHL stints it doesn't look like the Flames management see him a top 6 NHL forward (never got an opportunity to play up the lines).

He's shown he developed enough in the AHL. He will be an NHLer next year, up to him to push his way up the lines or be content with being a bottom 6 forward.

He was overwhelmed in pro at center, when he moved to wing this season, he took off.

I think he is a middle 6er. And probably a very good one.

I voted 3rd liner who can move up. Only for the simple fact we are deep with prospects up the middle right now.

I wonder if he is one of the guys who gets moved out down the road if we don't take his brother in this draft.

Seems like a reasonable replacement for Galiardi to me.

Too early to tell what he is. Max by his own admission starts slowly when going to the next level but then tends to excel. Last year in AHL he wasn't scoring so limit was at best 4th or 3rd liner if lucky. Now he looks like a 3rd liner with spot duty on 2nd. Great year!

3rd/4th line winger. His should hopefully compliment Bouma on the opposite wing.

The cap floor situation is tricky for the Flames but I hope we don't target any UFA forwards this summer. If we need to hit the cap floor overpay for Butler for two years or for a back up on a 1-2 year deal as well. Let guys like Galliardi and Westgarth walk. Shane O'Brien still has one year left on his deal, 2 million for next season.

Glencross - Stajan - Hudler
Byron - Monahan - Colborne
Reinhart - Backlund - Bouma
???? - ???? - McGratton
David Jones

The Flames have a plethora of guys either ready or close to knocking on the door. Gotta make room for Reinhart, Knight, Granlund soon, these guys look like the players ready to make the next step. Baertschi is close to that group as well coming on strong to end the season. A guy like Hanowski is in tough as he just doesn't do anything that strongly that others do, a slower bigger Horak, jack of all trades master of none type.

To be a drafting and developing team you have to make room for the guys that are ready for the next crop coming along.
Hopefully graduating are - Knight, Reinhart, Granlund, Baertschi, Wotherspoon?

Coming into the AHL - Poirier, Arnold, Gaudreau, Agostino, Van Brabant

Wildcards - Sieloff and Ferland due to injuries

Went off topic there a bit but despite the cap situation the Flames have to make room for a player like Reinhart who is close.

we as fans have this idea that "oh he'll just sit on our third line" and such. But we forget how hard it is to stick in the nhl on any line. Bouma is the last third liner we've produced in a while. Very good asset and i think he's just showing that his pedigree is going to grant him a long nhl career.

If the Flames don't sign a couple players with some bigger contracts, I think that roster you made would be under the cap floor, no?

One more thing.
Max is a poster boy for picking by hockey IQ.
His ability to learn and evolve is excellent.

I know Sutter gets a lot of hate for his drafting criteria while he was here, and a lot of it is deserved. But he still found some gems in late rounds.

Prust - 3rd round pick
Bouma- 3rd round pick
Brodie- 4th round pick
Ortio- 6th round pick
Reinhart- 3rd round pick
Arnold- 4th round pick
Ferland- 5th round pick

Yeah, I mentioned that.

Overpay on a back up, overpay for Butler on 1-2 deals and we should be okay. Maybe even try to bury David Jones in the minors too, his 4 million would count against the cap and still open up a roster spot for a better younger player.

I say pay Vanek a ton of money for four years and just let the kids come up to fill the rest of the spots. I don't think theres anything else Reinhart has to prove to the organization that he belongs on the big club. He should be a full timer next year, along with Granlund.

I would love to see him replace Glencross in the future as a second/third line guy in the future. If we sign some guys to over priced one year deals that we can flip at the deadline it might help

I've said this before, I think he'll be a guy like Bob Nystrom was with the Islanders. He won't be the big high-scorer, but he'll score the big goal when you need it.

He will start the next season as a third line winger playing alongside his brother Sam Reinhart and probably Sven Baertschi or Granlund I am hoping.

I think bottom 6. He'll get some 3rd line time, but will mostly be a 4th liner.
