Good to see another player signing a bridge contract.

Starting to dislike Kadri. One half season in the bigs and he's looking for term and $$$.

Disproportionate sense of self worth. Bridge deals are the norm for the majority of good players coming off their ELC.

Good for the Caps, good for the player.

Good deal for both sides. He's a good player and the team is turning into a pretty solid rounded team.

Offer sheeting anyone wouldn't make sense at this point for the Flames. If we signed this kind of offer sheet, it would have been matched right away, if we over pay we lose valuable draft picks and run the risk of the player not preforming up to their contract and it becomes a burden. The best way for the Flames to get good young players at this point is either in a trade or to draft them.

Good bridge contract to give him a chance to prove he's worth a big pay day.

Not a fan of all the long term deals for players coming out of their ELC.

According to NHL numbers, Washington has $116k in cap space now.

You don't think Johansson is worth a 2nd rounder?

You mean like every contract? I didn't say I want the Flames to give every RFA an offer sheet, just the ones on teams that are right to the cap, will not cost any first round picks, and will likely live up to the offered contract. Like Johansson.

I'm pretty sure they would have matched any offer that was even close and then found a way to shed the salary needed to be cap compliant, they don't have to be compliant for a while anyway so I'm sure they would have found a way to keep him. I just feel offer sheets are more risk than reward. I know that every contract runs the risk of being bad but it would sting even more if you gave a guy like Johansson a big deal and he didn't live up to it because the higher the contract, the more you give up so it hurts twice as much, thats all I was saying. If there was any way to get him in a deal, I think we should have been all over it as long as we don't have to give up younger players and prospects. A deal where we could take on some of their bad contracts to give them more cap room + a good player for a decent player.

Either way, he signed with the caps so we don't need to worry about it.
