Default So you want to lose weight?

Dont try this!

An Iowa doctor has issued a formal warning to health workers after treating a woman who bought a tapeworm online as a quick-fix slim-down trick.

yick. I was hoping for more of a support thread.

I used to wish I could be a bulimic temporarily, but that's really sick in itself.

So . . . . I could walk a mile out to my mailbox on the highway, pick up my tapeworm package, then walk a mile back to my house.

If I carried my tapeworm around and did that every day, I'd have a pretty effective weight loss program.

Makes more sense than swallowing a tapeworm and watching Paula Deen.

from the article...

Quote:
One tapeworm can't absorb enough food and nutrients to make a big difference in weight, according to scientific research

so i guess the true key to weight loss is multiple tapeworms?? gross!!

So you want to lose weight?

1. Alter your diet.
2. Go to the gym.
3. Alter your diet.

That is all.

I can't believe the lengths people will go to in order to lose weight... everything from these ridiculous trendy diets to bloody tapeworms.

I mean for christs sake... if you're too lazy to even give any merit to "BURN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU TAKE IN" then you should probably just give up now, buy an extra large keyboard and phone for your fat fingers and live out the last few years of your life sucking down cheeseburgers on the couch.

Tapeworms for weight loss... what obesity epidemic!?!?

I used to weigh 185 pounds back in jr high/high school, size 36 waist. I'm now 150 pounds, size 28-29 waist. I never really expected to get that low and infact i've been trying to put on weight the last year but I find that just as hard... I play a lot of hockey/tennis and on my off days i go to the gym. I know I shouldnt be doing cardio but I always start my sessions off with a 30 min, 10 mile biking session while I listen to a house/trance podcast. It's just a nice release for me and I really enjoy those 30 mins haha.

Cardio is for chumps, it's all about figuring out what foods your tapeworm likes the most.

Also for morbid curiosity I just googled "tapeworm forums for weightloss" and...

I'm looking for a tape snake. Not a big one. A garter snake would be fine.

My first year of touring, my speech started out with playing this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKs0oEIVOck

I have stopped showing that clip because it is simplistic, condescending and for most people, just plain wrong. I like your terminology better... Alter your diet is different than eating less and going to the gym is different than moving more.

But the clip does show what people will try to lose weight in order to shortcut the process. People took years to put on the weight and seem to want to lose it in 2 weeks. Not going to happen.

My new talk is (1) giving my advice on how to best lose weight in a reasonable way and (2) express WHY people should lose the weight. Most people are not sufficiently motivated to lose the weight. If you are happily married, have a good job, are set financially, and are generally happy with your life, there is little motivation to change. You could say health reasons, but most people are not that forward thinking and are not going to make any change until the doctor tells them they have diabetes or they have a heart attack. So I try to express to people how good you feel when you are fit. It was exhilarating to climb Mt. Wilcox when I was out your way. I love having the energy to go out and do so many more things.
