I don't fault Iginla or Alfredsson leaving. They are chasing a cup. I just don't understand why Alfredsson chose Detroit. Wings are a good team but are they one of the top 2-3 teams? Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh, Boston seem to be the top 4. Detroit though did take Chicago to game 7 OT but I don't see them as a cup winner but they could be I guess if they get hot.
Iggy should go to Detroit too. A group of old stars playing together. I actually think it could work for them.

Detroit was one game away from beating the Cup champs, and they still have the best coach in the business. No reason to think they won't contend next year, especially with the experience their younger guys got this year.

Maybe he's always wanted to play in Detroit with the other Swedes (Zetterberg, Franzen, Kronwall, etc), but has preferred to play out East instead? Now that Detroit is in the same Conference he can finally go there and play the same schedule he would in Ottawa.

I was under the impression that Boston displayed interest. Not sure why he'd choose Red Wings over them, but perhaps they made a good pitch with tons of cash.

Exactly. Their aging stars are still effective and I have no doubt they will make the playoffs again, at the very least. Maybe not a top contender but they could do damage.

A punch in the gut to all Sens fans. At least we got value for Iginla.
If I were a less lazy man, I'd try to dig up that thread from the deadline where that one dude was comparing Iggy to Alfie. He gave Alfie the huge edge because Iggy "ditched" his team, whereas Alf wouldn't do that. He was pretty arrogant about it.
Wonder what his thoughts are now, at least we got a 1st rounder & prospects for Iggy.
