Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia, hung herself in her family's bathroom last week after photos of her gang rape were distributed online by classmates. She fell into a coma. Her family pulled her off life support on Sunday.
The mother of a Halifax teenager who killed herself after allegedly being raped and photographed by four boys is making a public plea for people to leave the boys linked to the allegations alone.
Rehtaeh Parsons, 17, died on the weekend after trying to take her life last Thursday. Leah Parsons says her daughter was raped by four boys when she was 15, and then became the victim of bullying and harassment after a picture taken on the night of the alleged attack was circulated.
I don't believe in hell, but things like this make me wish it existed.

RCMP in Nova Scotia told the National Post Tuesday that all four boys involved in their investigation are still minors and police are “concerned” about reprisals.
Anonymous, a loose collection of worldwide hackers, say that other members of the group are also working on the case.
“Please be aware that there are other groups of Anons also attempting to uncover this information and they may not to wish to wait at all. Better act fast,” the “Operation Justice For Rehtaeh” group said to police.
Quote:
Operation Justice For Rehtaeh ---- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Anonymous engaged #OpJustice4Rataeh this morning in response to the suicide of Rehtaeh Parsons. Justice Minister Ross Landy says that it is important for Nova Scotians to have faith in their justice system. Mr. Landy, justice is in your hands.
Anonymous has confirmed the identities of two of the four alleged rapists. We are currently confirming a third and it is only a matter of time before the fourth is identified as well.
Our demands are simple: We want the N.S. RCMP to take immediate legal action against the individuals in question. We encourage you to act fast. If we were able to locate these boys within 2 hours, it will not be long before someone else finds them.
We do not approve of vigilante justice as the media claims. That would mean we approve of violent actions against these rapists at the hands of an unruly mob. What we want is justice. And That's your job. So do it.
The names of the rapists will be kept until it is apparent you have no intention of providing justice to Retaeh's family. Please be aware that there are other groups of Anons also attempting to uncover this information and they may not to wish to wait at all. Better act fast.
Be aware that we will be organizing large demonstrations outside of your headquarters. The rapists will be held accountable for their actions. You will be held accountable for your failure to act.
You know there are two different horrific crimes here.
The first is the gang rape and distribution of the pictures. Now I'm sure that there are lots of defenses for these scumbags. "Oh they were raised in a broken home", "They were drunk", They are good boys they should get leniency".
you know something, in terms of violent crime and sexual crimes, I don't care how you were raised, I don't care what your angry about or how your mind works. Its pretty clear that its unacceptable in society, that its a crime, that its an assault on someone that literally has nothing to do with your crime.
I get it, people with rough upbringings or broken homes or abuse fall into drugs, and fall in to crime to deal with whatever it is that they are dealing with. But this is a whole other level, and if you either don't know its wrong, don't feel its wrong, don't care that its wrong, then you are a danger to society period. No short sentences for you, return the Queens pleasure to sentencing which means that you don't get let out until you prove your rehabilitated, too old to do anything, or in a cardboard box.
What's particularly disturbing is that they distributed pictures, they didn't care if they got caught, they didn't care about the victim, they were proud of the crime, that makes you a vile human being, and you should only get one chance to save yourself.
I give tremendous credit to the mother for making the statement that she wants these things left alone (They're not human beings to me). I wouldn't be that strong, they'd be found in fricken pieces to be honest if that was my daughter.
As for the Cyberbullies, the anonymous tough guys the ones that basically slowly murdered the girl. Is jail the answer? I don't know. Personally the thing that they fear the most is their loss of anonymity. So if they're caught and found guilty they should have a tattoo that reads internet bully causing death tattoo'd on their head so everyone knows what they are. They should be exposed to the light of day since that the biggest thing that they fear.
They should have to go to the workplace with that Tattoo. Part of their sentence is to do public services messages on T.V., If they lose their house and end up on the street they'll be an object lesson for every one else to learn from. I have no respect or compassion for these people, they are as responsible for this death as someone who would point a gun at her and pull the trigger.
They should never be able to touch a computer or smart phone again for any reasons.
Sorry about the rant, this is happening way to often, and these people rapists who publish and bullies alike are scumbags.

Is there solid evidence out there like there was with the Steubenville case?
What concerns me with the involvement of Anonymous here is that absent that evidence it could simply be a case of them loving their new position as vigilante's a little too much. With Steubenville you had piles of evidence, including admissions, and a police force that was apparently unwilling to act. I haven't seen that here, which gives me pause.

Tried and convicted by people saying they're not vigilantes.
I like the pressure coming down, like anyone else, because it appears police didn't do much until the victim killed herself. Suddenly, they've got a case where they didn't before. That doesn't look good.
Still, its a big risk in naming the minors if they or even one of them is a wrong name.

I see anonynous is going to release the names of the 4 boys. I like that type of activism.
As strange as it sounds, I don't
The bottom line to me is that this story was exposed to the press by the girls tragic end, let the press take it and put the pressure on the RCMP. Anonymous is acting like an executioner pre-trial here, and they are actually supporting the possible same type of cyber-bullying crap that lead to the death of the victim.
They're being hypocritical in their stance.
Anonymous uses a pretty wide blade as well, they've pointed to the wrong person a few times and exposed that person to undue harassment.
I like what they did with Scientology and with the Westboro Baptist Church.
But the rest of their activities (urging North Korean's to revolt, bad investigations leading to exposure of innocent people) are dangerous and they should stop, they're not hero's to me in this case

Why is the mother asking for people to leave the boys alone? Sounds kind of strange...
Not really. She's a mother who just lost a daughter; she doesn't want to have another family go through potentially losing a son.
I'm sure she would like to see justice done, but without things getting carried away.
Really if she was out there screaming for the boys heads on platters; she would be no different than the online bullies who drove her daughter to her end.
It's a horrific ordeal, and I am inclined to believe the claims of the mother and the victim. However I would just mention we're only hearing one side of the story. An investigation was made already and there wasn't enough evidence to convict anyone. That is a fairly big point one shouldn't forget.
As internet activism goes, this is one of those stories that gets a ton of press and outrage, with very few facts. We see it all the time. If it is as this one side appears, it's despicable and deplorable, and these guys should be tried and punished as adults. However, like I said, we really only know the one side.
I think there probably is some truth here, and the police probably should look at it again, but I would hold off ripping hair out or joining Anon to kick some ass until more is known.

You have to remember Anon is a whole boatload of people. They're not the Lone Gunmen from the X-Files or anything.
Some people are better at doxxing than others, and sometimes the good doxxers are still checking their facts when some bad-anon releases info that fingers an innocent.
