Woodcroft was a scout and video coach for both the Wild and Capitals, and lead the Kings amateur European scouting department. He was also a video coach in Mike Babcock's staff for Hockey Canada at the 2004 WHC when Canada won gold

With Todd Woodcroft hired as Scouting Director to assist Director of Amateur Scouting Todd Button, I'm thinking the Flames next hire should be a Titles Coordinator.

Whenever they mention Craig Conroy on 960 as "special assistant to the general manager" I always chuckle and think of Dwight Schrute.

It appears the Flames are trying to get a bigger presence in Russia.
They drafted a Russian for the first time in 12 years last draft and now have hired a scout whose expertise is scouting in Russia. Prior to this hiring sounds like they only Russian contact was to call up Igor Kravchuk
Wonder if Nichuskin and the lack of organizational familiarity with Russia forced them to address this.

No, what they really need is an Executive Coordinator of Coordinators of Titles Coordination. They can fill out the middle-management positions later.

While I am in full support of increasing our scouting in Europe, I do somwhat feel like investing on Russian scouting is a waste of time and money.
Nichuskin could still become the next great Russian to play in the NHL and make everyone who passed over him regret their decision to do so. But really, after watching Kovalchuk leave the Devils for the KHL, I would really hate for the Flames to ever be that team.
Feaster specifically mentioned Russia in the press release when describing Woodcroft's European scouting abilities.
Yes they mentioned his experience scouting in Russia would be an asset. He would have developed contacts and connections there that he can rely on going forward to gather good information even if he is not based there.
The release mentions nothing about him specializing in Russia for us. In fact it says he will do crossover work between North America and Europe and thus suggests he will be covering all of Europe and all of North America pro scouting and thus not be a Russian specialist for us at all.
It's nice to see the investment down on the farm, Ftorak is going to be one of the highest paid AHL assistants ( I assume with his experience and credentials). The majority of these prospects that we are so excited about are going to playing for the Heat for the near future and will benifit from his NHL experience as both a player and coach. He can also show them how to rock a sweater circa 1987

Ftorek interesting hire. Sounds like still a hardass. Certainly Ward has to be looking over his shoulder...if he doesn't move up, he will move on (Ward that is).
