Default Best Flames team including past/present players

I was fairly bored earlier today so I assembled this uber line-up. IMO this is the best of all the players we've had but I'd love to see your lines if you got the time

Joe Mullen - Doug Gilmour - Jarome Iginla
Kent Nilsson - Joel Otto - Hakan Loob
Sergei Makarov - Jim Peplinski - Lanny Mcdonald

Al Macininis - Gary Suter
Paul Reinhart - Phil Housley
Robyn Regher - Jamie Macoun

Miikka Kiprusoff
Mike Vernon

Scratches: Cory Stillman, Tim Hunter, Brad McCrimmon, Michael Nylander

Makarov played the RW, I'm fairly certain.

I think Iginla, in his prime, needs to be the 1st line RW

I'd have 07/08 Phaneuf in over Regehr.

With a stacked offensive lineup like that. I don't risk having Housley on the team at all. I'd even have Gio or Bouwmeester on before him. It would be different if there was offense missing up front or if Suter and MacInnis weren't already on the team.

^^ Bouw? Easy to remember Phil H from his latest 2 yr service and the team he was on. At least Lousy made the playoffs for the team with which he started in '95.

Mine isn't much different from what people have posted. I tried to add some more grit into the lineup though and the first three lines are equally considered 1st line, they just rotate based on opponent or how the line is performing that night:

1a Roberts-Nieuwendyk-Loob
1b Fleury-Gilmour-Mullen
1c McDonald-Nilsson-Iginla
3 Tonelli-Otto-Plett
extra T.Hunter Risebrough Makarov

1 MacInnis - Suter
2 Reinhart - Regehr
3 Macoun - McCrimmon
extra Ference - Giordano

Kiprusoff
Vernon

No Brett Hull? No Martin St. Louis? There gotta be a minimum games played before adding them in? More than one guy are picking Macoun/McCrimmon as a 2nd or third pairing after MacInnis/Suter. Crazy they all played on that '89 team.

I thought about Hull but completely forgot about St.Louis. I left off Hull because he had such a small impact on the team. For my team I chose the best Flames team based on balance, not based on having only the best players. I wanted some grit so I included Tonelli and Plett. If we were to pick the best players whether they were stellar for the Flames or made their names elsewhere, these lists would look very different. A lot of people will favor the 1989 Stanley Cup team because of the obvious reasons, people are more fond of the players on that team. I myself was tempted to use just that roster.

Joey Mullen - Joe Nieuwendyk - Hakan Loob
*Jarome Iginla - Guy Chouinard - Sergei Makarov
Gary Roberts - Joel Otto - Lanny McDonald
*Colin Patterson - Stéphane Yelle - Theo Fleury

Al MacInnis - Robyn Regehr
Brad McCrimmon - Gary Suter
Paul Reinhart - Jamie Macoun

Miikka Kiprusoff
Fred Brathwaite

*Too rich on the right side, Patterson and Iggy need to be slotted in on the leftside removing John Tonelli who should really be be on the list

What's the criteria for this though? I usually see these things as how they played AS a Flame, as opposed to just star players who had a cup of coffee with the team in their twilight (or infancy). Otherwise you could have Cujo as our #3 G.

I think Phanuef belongs on the team after McInnis and Suter.

Also, I'd like to see a "legacy" line of Nilsson-Niewendyk-Iginla just cuz.

I did not choose Hull or St. Louis, becuase neither of them were that good when they played for the flames. They each went on to have good careers, they just werrent taht good when playing for the Flames. thats just my opinion
