Default Civil Forfeiture nightmare

Do you guys ever hear of civil forfeiture cases like these? Yikes.

The link to Stillman's New Yorker article is at the end of this site's article. It's kinda long but good.

Well, the topic made the New Yorker, or is that not good either? Just curious what your views are , and if these cases happen up there.

Yeah, it's not porn. They're actually an insightful and entertaining blog.

That is unbelievable, there are a number of things that I like about the United States but for police forces to disproportionately and seemingly intentionally target poor/impoverished people with questionable laws in order to raise money for a police force sounds more like a third world nation than anything else.

Here's the article from the New Yorker.

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...urrentPage=all

It's pretty startling how bad things appear in some of those counties. The cops and prosecutors are basically pirates. This should be another nail in the War on Drugs coffin, but I doubt it will be.

Wow. I knew about forfeiture for drug-related offenses but had no idea it was being abused to this extent.

Detroit "blind pig" raids are very scary. As money dries up in the city the police force has turned on it's own people to fund itself. I'd be getting the #### out of Detroit, too.

Coincidence that most of this story is narrated in the so-called "red" states?

Another reason to stay away from the US. I love visiting certain parts of the country, but I could never see myself moving there for any reason

Cops robbing people? Sounds like they are taking notes from the Mexican authorities.
