I was just looking at the earliest archived calgaryflames.com page on the wayback machine. Dark times.

That team looks a little better than what we'll have this season.

hahaha. are you kidding?

A defence with Cale Hulse, Todd Simpson, Tom Abeline, Jamie Allison, Joel Bouchard and Derrick Morris. Butler would slot into top 4 there.

Hopefully history repeats itself and Nylander is one of the Flames centers next year.

67 points right?

They could easily be that bad. Hope not though.

It'd be nice if my tickets went back to the same level too. They were so cheap back then, it was the only saving grace to a crap team.

And I was pointing out there was no reason to bring Butler into yet another unrelated thread. Again.

It's very tiresome.

I would argue that Fleury, Nylander, Stillman and Iginla are all better than anything we gonna have next year. Fleury was still a lock for Canadian olympic team and Iginla was running for Calder and I mean really running for Calder, not like Baertchi did last year. Derek Morris was probably better than anything we have on the blueline. He looked like a future all-star in his first couple of seasons and, although failed to reach his potential, still ended up with 1000+ NHL games. Gio is 29 and he has 385 NHL games currently, I don't see him matching that. That team looks better to me. It's debatable, but there's no way to say that our current team is "no way" as bad. To me, it's actually worse.

I wish we could take a wayback machine to a time where they still sold Beer Nuts in the dome.

He's LW on "Our players" and RW on "Our team". Don't see him as C anywhere, but I could miss it.

Interesting looking at the roster..... The overall smallness stands out. Lot of individual that were/turned out to be solid long term NHLers (Titov, Cassells, Stillman,McInnis, Iginla, Fluery,Patrick, Morris, Gauthier, Roloson), but overall lack of team size!!

Roster of 1997 SC champs Detroit link

This provides some context for Sutter drafting the biggest guys available.
