Vancouver Canucks standout defenceman Alexander Edler is expected to be suspended for the first two games of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic men’s hockey tournament as an extension of a previous suspension by the International Ice Hockey Federation, according to News1130 Sports in Vancouver.
Not sure what he was suspended for but it only makes sense to carry it over.
No different than a player behind suspended 20 games on the last game of the season....that carries over to the following year doesnt it?

Well deserved, watching Staal convulse on the ice made me shiver...
For those who haven't seen it it's a pretty textbook knee on knee hit. Edler goes to hit him, Staal shifts and Edler's no longer lined up to hit him, and instead of avoiding the hit he takes the knee.
Not quite a Bryan Marchment special, but not far off either.
The question is, does Sweden even bother selecting him for their team now? On the one hand he just misses the round robin games and you have to think Sweden's going to be fine there with or without him. On the other hand you'd be picking a guy just to have him sit in the press box for 2 games. And it's not like we're talking about Erik Karlsson here.
