Flames It's August - Predict Flames Player Stats for the 2013-2014 NHL Season

I know it's still two months until the start of the NHL season and players can still be moved, but since August is the slowest month in the calendar for hockey fans, I thought it would be fun to predict player stats for the upcoming season.

I've only listed players who I think will be given a fair amount of games and ice time. I've kept it pretty simple.

My predictions:

G:
Ramo: 42GP - 2.90GAA - .910SV%
Berra: 28GP - 2.95GAA - .911SV%
MacDonald: 12GP - 3.13GAA - .903SV%

242 total goals against.

C:
Backlund: 72GP - 21-30-51p
Monahan: 81GP - 13-24-37p
Stajan: 70GP - 10-14-24p
Knight: 82GP - 7-17-24p

LW:
Cammalleri: 65GP - 23-16-39p
Glencross: 79GP - 21-25-46p
Baertschi: 70GP - 18-29-47p
McGrattan: 54GP - 2-3-5p

RW:

Hudler: 80GP - 13-25-38p
D. Jones: 70GP - 15-10-25p
Galiardi: 75GP - 9-10-19p
Stempniak: 76GP - 12-25-37p

D:
Wideman: 82GP - 9-22-31p
Giordano: 70GP - 6-18-24p
Brodie: 78GP - 5-26-31p
O'Brien: 80GP - 1-8-9p
Butler: 82GP - 2-10-12p
Cundari: 50GP - 3-11-14p
Russell: 32GP - 2-6-8p

192 goals from 19 players
11 goals from call-ups (Horak, Jackman, Reinhart, Hanowski, Agostino, Smith, Wotherspoon, Granlund, Bouma, Bancks, etc.)
= 203 total goals for.

~~

Let's see your predictions.

I feel Berra is going to either be injured early after playing incredible or called up late in the season and have a great start to his Nhl career.
I think Granlund makes the team not Monahan and that he or Baertschi (if he's still eligible) wins rookie of the year .
Glencross gets to 30 this year, Cammallerri is moved mid season, Baertschi has a great campaign and stays healthy for the most part. Horak has an excellent season and somehow Gaudreau gets signed at the end of the college season and gets in a few games. Butler gets injured early.

Overall the team has a great forecheck and pressure system which surprises this year with a much higher offensive output than pundits predicted.

Love the inclusion of Granlund and stat.

That would be amazing.

Ramo: 22GP - 3.15 GAA - .897 SV%
Berra: 24GP - 2.95GAA - .911SV%

Ramo & MacDonald are the tandem to start the season. Mac is solid and carries the majority of the load for the 1st half of the season. Berra earns a call-up and looks pretty solid to close out the season.

224 from 23 players. Decent scoring by committee.

Looking at the centre's Backlund, Stajan and Knight and I can see either Cammalleri or Horak getting forced to centre and Blair Jones getting 40 games on the 3/4 line.

Bouma gets at least 40 games.

Stempniak had a career high 52 points 8 years ago. He gets basically no time in the top 6 or PP with Jones and Hudler being the clear top 2 RW. 60 games and 25 points max for Stempniak as he has trouble adapting his play to 3rd line grit.

Jackman continues his great play at year end and with McGrattan a Flame in the heavy-weight division from the start Jackman earns some 3rd line time.

Hankowski gets 10-20 games.

Breen get 10 nhl games.

Whatever centre somehow ends up between Glencross and Jones puts up 60+ points. Might be Cammalleri or Stajan If Knight is able to keep up he might end up with 48 points in the Rookie of the year race. Glencross and Jones turn into Glencross/Moss .... making whatever centre that plays with them better.

Baertschi gets stuck on a line with Backlund and Hudler and tops out at 35 pts.

If I will be subjected to Tim jackman in a top 9 role we better we rewarded with the 1st overall pick.

in 2010-11 the Flames missed the playoffs by 3 points. They would have been in the playoffs, clear and simple if Bouwmeester could have played as well as Steve Staois in the last 20 games.

That year both Kostopolus and Jackman saw a considerable amount of time in the top 9.

I think that Jackman getting more ice time in the last 10 games provide a better comfort level for the kids (Baertschi, Reinhart, Horak, Hankowski)...and allowed their skills to show.

Perhaps Galliardi and/or Jones and/or Jones and/or Bouma and/or Hankowski will be enough to keep Jackman on the 4th line but I can see how as an opposing player I would much rather have Stempniak watching Horak's, Baertschi's , Backlunds, Cammalleri's, Hudlers back than Jackman.

Having SOB on the ice 20 minutes a game will also take the charge out of the oppositions crashers.

24 forwards and 12 defensemen, combining for 210 goals. * indicates trade at the deadline.

Has Hartley talked about how the team will play ? Will we be the no 5 guy back entertaining team he promised? Or are we going to be a structured disciplined team like he prefers to coach?

And whoever it is, particularly if it is Backlund, they will get ripped on CP for only getting points because the team is so bad.

I see the Flames scoring around 185-190 goals this season. I think they are good for a 15 goal drop from 2011-12. That's about a pro-rated 25 goal drop from this year. I also see the Flames giving up 240-245 goals, or a 15 goal increase over 2011-12. That would actually be a pro-rated 30 goal improvement over last year. Going to be a long year.

I think the OP is being a tad too optimistic with our "two best goalies not in the NHL." I would be pleasantly surprised if any of our tenders finished in the .900s. I would also be pleasantly surprised if any of our players hit 50 points. Most likely is Baertschi with a breakout season imo.

We had Lee Stempniak play at a 56 point pace just this past season.

I can guarantee, barring injuries, somebody will hit 50 points in Hartley's system.

I think I may have been a tad optimistic with my goalie predictions, and perhaps Monahan, but I think this is about where the Flames will be offensively next season.

This team will struggle to score 180 goals unless it gives up 250.

Having SOB to walk around for 20 minutes a night would be the oppositions dream. They don't need to crash the net and wait for the stupid SOB penalty to come they can just score at will playing 4 on 5 with him out there.
