Default No more Twinkies or wonderbread?

http://www.ctvnews.ca/business/end-o...ants-1.1040763

Basically they are liquidating their assets after their striking bakers union employees didn't listen to their deadline (thought it was a bluff?) of Thursday last week. So sounds like over 18000 people lose their jobs because a union wanted to no bend or listen to employer's situation.

It does sound like some of the brands might be bought out though, so maybe a different kind of twinkie in the future?

The IP (read name of products and good will associated) alone is worth something to someone. Believe me.

There will be wonderbread and twinkies for years to come. Just maybe not from Hostess.

It's sad that Twinkies can survive nuclear warfare but can't survive a few striking workers.

Wow, that seems a bit 'scorched earth.'

Maybe we're beginning to see the decline of union power?

Twinkies have blown hard for years now. They used to be tasty then suddenly they sucked. Hopefully someone else restores them to glory.

Yup. Shame that 5500 workers managed to put the other 13,000 out of a job though. You know your union is screwed up when the Teamsters are saying "dude, settle".

Just curious how this affects the local Canadian businesses / bakeries. I know there is a Wonder Bread bakery that is just on 58th St. Is there a difference between the US and Canadian branches?

According to the story, the Wonderbread brand is owned independently in Canada. This won't affect it.

You won't see them disappear of shelves, but I wouldn't be too sad even if we did. They are all kind of terrible anyway. High fructose corn syrup is not something I want in my bread.

I miss the Canadian Hostess products (chips and the mascots) after Lays took over. I don't care for the American Hostess company or Twinkies or Wonderbread.

Interesting to see the company stick it to the Unions...

I heard on Twitter that Saputo makes Twinkies in Canada so this won't affect us.

Yeah....even Jimmy Hoffa would probably have signed eventually.

Saputo apparently holds the license to make Hostess snack cakes in Canada but does hot currently make Twinkies.

Who knows though, that may change now.

Weston Bakeries make Wonder Bread in Canada so no change there.

The ones I'll miss the most are the Hostess chocolate cream-filled cupcakes. Probably the most unhealthy thing you can possibly eat, but damn are they good.

Most all those brands will continue, but under the ownership and name of a different company.
