8-year deals freak me out. But Bergeron is a stud and the dollar figure is about right.

Likewise it's still hard to accept players getting paid that much at the age of 35 but when you have a drafted two way star center who has been relatively injury free as of late, good on the Bruins to lock him up for life.

$6.5 million is fair market value for Patrice. However, 8 years is 2 years too much.

Dollars and terms seem a bit excessive, but that is just me.

that long term deal they signed Marc Savard worked out so well... you think they would learn. any player is a matt cooke elbow away from sudden retirement

Is it just me or has that year limit of 7-8 actually increased the average length of contracts being handed out around the league? Before there was a limit it was just whatever worked for both sides... Now a player re-signing with his current team expects 8 and a UFA wants 7.

Insurance pays him his money, no? I don't think that contract hurts them but I could be wrong.

$6.5M is really reasonable money for a top6 center in today's NHL. Considering Getzlaf got $8.25M, I would say that the Bruins got a bit of a deal here.

He's a quality player so it's good that they locked him up but the question is how effective he will be at the back end of the deal. Teams must be feeling the cap will start trending up as the Bruins sunk a lot of money and term into two players this week.

Fair price but 4 years too long. He has been showing decline in the regular season the last few years but always steps it up in the playoffs at least.

I think they'll regret this in the second half of the contract.

Free of injury? Who? Bergeron? The guy who had a punctured lung in the finals and missed the end of the season with a concussion?

I did say relatively as in the regular season for the last 3 years he's only missed 9 games considering how battered he's been before.

8 years for a guy that is often injured is just unwise.

What the hell is going on in Boston? Did Chiarelli drink the crazy juice or something?

Given the cap considerations, it looks like players and agents are negotiating for seemingly more reasonable AAV, but for longer terms (Bozak, Clarkson). OK early, but bad news nearer the end of the term, in my opinion.
