Default Ref Beheaded

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/s...084120459.html

A player strikes the ref , the ref in turn stabs the player killing him then the fans rush the ref stone him before putting his head on a stake in the middle of the field. Is this real life?

Although in fairness it kind of got buried in there and this is completely insane. I couldnt believe it when I read it either.

Why are soccer fans so violent and insane? The violence in the UK and this incident, I just don't understand it at all. Is it just because their stadiums are so large so there's more chance of crazy, violent people showing up? Or is because of a lack of other sports to follow so it dilutes the obsession to one particular sport? I don't follow soccer as I personally find it boring so maybe that's why I don't understand how this can happen.

Holy hell, that is insane.

The video online of the referee in the hospital with his limbs chopped off and his head decapitated is nuts. My curiosity got the best of me so I clicked on it.......

There is a video of the aftermath at the hospital. Not sure of the forum's rules on it so I haven't posted it.

For some people soccer is their religion, its true of many countries.

For a lot of people soccer is their only escape from their everyday lives and they take it very, very seriously.

Liking anything to a level where you'd behead someone is ridiculous whether it's soccer, religion, or pina coladas.

Oh hells yes. Its insane. This is like something you'd expect from someone o Bath Salts.

Its not even just the beheading. Its the putting the head on a stake at midfield. When was the last time someone was drawn and quartered?

Its unbelievable.

This is insane but not surprising in terms of south american soccer fans. Didn't they shoot that columbian goalie to death for that own goal about a decade ago?

So? It shouldn't be serious enough that you behead someone for it. That's taking it too far.

I'm a soccer player myself, and there's tons of fans out there that sure give this game a bad name.

This is an unbelievable and horrific story, and nothing excuses what these fans did, but WTF was the ref thinking?!?! In a country of extreme soccer fans like Brazil, how did he NOT assume his life could be in severe jeopardy after KILLING a player for striking him?!

Would've been an insane story had it ended after he killed the player, the fans reactions just make it all the more unfathomable in this day and age of sport.
