I would bet it's real. Whether it actually weighed 1000 pounds is another question, but somewhat irrelevant in the discussion.
There is a large feral pig problem south of us in the rural areas of Sumner County, Kansas. The difference is that there is not nearly as much cover for them here as there would be in that very beautiful part of Georgia. That probably makes them easier for farmers to kill and less likely that they would grow to gargantuan proportions.
I've seen a big hog before and I thought it was going to open the door of my car, pull me out and stomp me to death it was so big. So I really have no trouble believing that story.
If it is false though, you can be sure it isn't THAT far off the mark of what is really out there tearing up peanut fields.
