Default Former Calgary Hitmen Martin Jones having a great start in his NHL career.

Pretty awesome to hear a former Calgary Hitmen goaltender Martin Jones having some success in his first 4 games in the NHL. The Los Angeles Kings goaltender posted 3 goals against in his first 4 games with his back-to-back shutout against the Islanders and Montreal then only giving up one goal vs Toronto last night. In his first game he only gave up 2 goals.

Really good start for Jones, played especially well in the game last night. Little bit of the Darryl Sutter effect though. Posted this in the OOT thread last night.

93/94 Belfour: 0.906 SV% 2.67 GAA (5th in GA/G)
94/95 Belfour: 0.906 SV% 2.28 GAA (1st in GA/G)
97/98 Vernon: 0.896 SV% 2.46 GAA (14th in GA/G)
98/99 Vernon: 0.911 SV% 2.27 GAA (5th in GA/G)

00/01 Nabakov: 0.915 SV% 2.19 GAA (3rd in GA/G)
01/02 Nabakov: 0.918 SV% 2.48 GAA (9th in GA/G)
03/04 Kipper: 0.933 SV% 1.70 GAA (3rd in GA/G)
05/06 Kipper: 0.923 SV% 2.07 GAA (1st in GA/G)
12/13 Quick: 0.902 SV% 2.45 GAA (7th in GA/G)

So his teams have been top 5 in GA/G in 7 of the 11 full seasons that he has coached, and top 10 in 9 of the 11 seasons. That is remarkable. He doesn't get enough credit for how good of a coach he is due to his GM record near the end in Calgary.

Wonder what would have been if he would have stayed head coach in Calgary and would have brought in somebody to help out in the GM role.
They also currently sit first in GA/G this year.

We have seen other goaltenders burst on the scene and fall back to earth so we would need a much larger sample size. As far as the Sutter effect they didn't look like a Sutter team last night as the Leafs dominated the Kings and had numerous scoring chances but Jones was dominant. Nice story and hopefully he can keep up the good play.

The only goal Jones gave up last night was on a five on three, and the second penalty to LA was highly questionable. Pretty amazing performance by him so far.

small sample size, but good for jones for sticking with it in the AHL for 4 years and biding his time with an organization that was deep in goalies. Hopefully he can continue to play at a level that sees him stay in LA.......

Nobody is lining up to give him the Vezina or the Hart, people are saying he's had a good start to his career, which is true.

Great start no doubt... but considering Ben Scrivens stats as well... its a good system for a goalie.

Nice to see a Hitmen alumni having success in the NHL. I watched his first game just because he was playing. 9 for 9 in the shoot out. Best shootout performance ever.

What was he like when he was in Calgary? Anyone know him. Seemed to be pretty calm and cool from what I've seen of his play so far. I think with how good LA's defense and system is any goalie would be stronger there. Not taking anything away from Jones's great start though, good on him.

I always thought he was solid, and got jobbed in terms of ice time at the wjhc. I also recall being stunned at how big he was....

He's still going. Whether he's the product of a strong defensive system or not, it's still pretty damn impressive.

Now he is 6-0-0, with a 0.82 GAA and 3 shutouts
