Icon38 Flyers sign Emery (1yr, $1.65M)

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN 1m finally CONFIRMED earlier reports from TSN/RDS. 1 yr deal for Emery as a Flyer. Flyers will make it a battle for No.1 at reasonable cost

Philly for sure needs to spend more money. Good work Holmgren!

It's like nobody has told him yet there is a salary cap.

Figured, makes sense... he wants a shot at being a starter again and Flyers need someone willing to work cheaper. It's a good fit.

Emery was great in games against Calgary last year. Like this signing.

Good price for what he showed last year.

Considering how he played last season, that's a great signing.

Wow, the Flyers actually didn't overpay for a goalie. I'm amazed.

I thought after Emery's good season he could have gotten longer term and more money. Great deal by the Flyers.

Philly looking better this year. Need some help on the back-end still, but they should make the playoffs easily now.

Probably a move to get even more term and money next year.

Emery looked great in a small sample of games. He hasn't really earned the "longer term AND more money" yet. The one year deal will give him the chance to sink or swim.

Personally, I hope he has another season full of drama and meltdowns where he is fighting teammates at practice. The idea of the Flyers finally solving their goaltending situation is just no fun.

Chris Botta ‏@ChrisBottaNHL 1m
Ray Emery's smart. He knows that one good year with the Flyers gets him 8 years, $300 billion.

I like this move for the Flyers. If he and Mason can continue the play they had last year (Mason played well in his few games for the Flyers), the Flyers will have a pretty good and very inexpensive goaltending tandem.

Best opportunity for Emery to earn the starter role. That's what he wants and why he would accept lower $ than he might have a chance at elsewhere. 1 year lets him prove himself and cash in next year.
