And the circle is complete. Maybe Burke and Lowe can call off the fist fight now.

Now the question is: when is Edmonton trading for him now?

Decent signing. Too heavy for the flames though

I would take Penner at 2 mil for sure. Lots of pancakes up here pal. Especially in July!

I would have liked him back in Edmonton, I think that's good value for Penner.

He'll probably provide quite good value on that contract.

I'm very surprised he was picked up for so little... Did he play with Getzlaf and Perry at all in his first stint in ANA?

The guy is only good during the post season. Not a bad thing to have if you have the space, but he's practically useless during the regular season.

Does the Ducks signing Penner mean anything about Selanne and his situation? Still hoping he comes back, but he just turned 43, so who knows if he might still retire.

Uh, what exactly is your point?...wouldn't a team prefer that over the opposite?

Yes, which is the only reason he still has a job in the NHL.
My point is that only teams who are close to making the playoffs, or feel they're guaranteed to make the playoffs can afford to have a guy like Penner on the roster. I would even venture that teams who are only on the verge of making the dance shouldn't take the gamble on him. They would be better off spending that $2 M per on role players who give a #### 82 games (or hopefully more) per season.

Penner is the classic slacker. Blessed with size and skill but just doesn't have the desire to be the best he can be. I still remember that training camp picture where he had his shirt off and had a frikking beer belly. When you are making millions of dollars to play the sport of hockey the least you can do is get yourself in decent shape.
