Which center is Feaster targeting to play with Cammalleri?
Split off from the Cammalleri rumor thread:
Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH 1m Feaster also said expectation is to start the season w/Cammalleri and they want to find him a good centre to play with. #NHL
Obviously you have the UFAs in Vinny, Weiss, and Ribiero

I wrote this over in the other thread:
I think i am more worried about Feaster trying to get the "center" to play with Cammi, than trading Cammi for a "mey' return.
Trading for a top 6 center is not cheap, asset wise. Getting one in UFA will be very expensive also and more than likely come with long term. Cammi will be long gone before that term is over.

I am sure they will make big pitches for Filppula and Weiss. Unless they try for Vinny but I have the feeling he's going to end up in DET.

Not a bad idea. Inflate Cammy's numbers until the deadline, then snag another 1st rounder. That is my dream. I think it'll be a post apex center that's been in the headlines recently...

Feaster may be targeting a centre, which could carry its own concerns (I don't think so though, we likely have the worst centre ice in the league and have room for one even if we managed to draft an NHL ready guy this year), but there is no way he's actually getting one for "Cammy".
Feaster is simply letting the market know he's prepared to start the year with Cammy, and potentially setting Cammy up for success driving his value up after the season starts. He simply letting the market know that we aren't disparate to move him, and that his price may go up the longer teams wait. He's soliciting better offers with that statement.

I doubt Ribiero would come to Calgary and I think it would be dumb to sign Weiss because he's not a true #1 C. I'd rather see Backlund up there.
Vinny seems like the best choice. Let's say the Flames manage to sign Vinny.
Cammalleri - Lecavalier - Jones
Glencross - Stajan - Stempniak
Baertschi - Backlund - Hudler
Jackman - Jones - McGrattan
I don't love that lineup, lol. I'd rather see Backlund/Stajan/6th Overall pick battle out the top 3 centre roles. I'd rather see Baertschi in the top 6. I'd rather see Reinhart and Horak get fulltime jobs.

Bozak would be my first choice. But if we come away from FA with any one of Bozak, Ribeiro, Roy, Filpulla, or Lecavalier, I'll be happy. Unless the plan is to get a top 2 pick tanking next year, we need a top-6 NHL center. We don't have one.

That is a potential very scary quote if true. Luckily we have seen that 90% of what comes out of Feasters mouth is BS.
But looking for a center to play with Cammalieri should be right around priority number 100 for this team in the off-season.

Bozak, Weiss, Filpulla.
Should 100% be on their target list, if so.
Any one of them will be an alright top 6 C to help tie us over until the kids can run with the ball. Though none are true #1s.
(All in the 27-29 age range, which will make them useful for duration of rebuild)

Are you actually that literal? Do you actually think everything that comes out GMs mouths are true or should be taken word for word? Is so blatantly obvious what Feaster is doing, he's not actually acquiring a player FOR a player that's asked to be moved and has an expiring contract.

I can see the Feaster/Vinny connection ending in us with Lecavalier on a one year deal for a decent price. I think TBay wants him back at a much better rate and so does he want to go back but can't do so after being bought out by them. After a 1 year deal somewhere else, he should be free to re-join the Bolts at a much reduced cap hit.

With Stajan, Backlund, Knight already in the top 9, the question is, who's the odd man out?
My money is on Stajan.

I would say that most things that come out of a GM's mouth are true and should be taken for what they are yes.
I think that based on other comments made by Feaster, his history in terms of overpaying for bad FA's and inability to accurately assess his teams coupled with this latest comment that it looks like Feaster is looking at going after a UFA center (of which all are bad options).

If he is going for a one year deal after making all that money on a buyout seems to make much more sense that he chases a ring or goes somewhere nice to live for a year. Playing for a terrible Flames team with a GM that quit over the contract that he was given seems like it would be low on his list.
