Calgary Flames 2013 Draft Preview
Probably already posted, apologies if I missed it.
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...ew/#more-92027
Good recap, I almost fell out of my chair when I read someone finally give the organization credit for building a solid pool of prospects. Also, this was posted just prior to Feaster landing Corban Knight, so he's not even factored in.
I like the results of their mock draft, but I would prefer Zykov over Rychel if the opportunity exists.

I think Morrisey will be long gone by our 28th pick but it is a more informed article on the Flames than they usually put out.

Alternative perspective: my East Coast hockey bird dog (who used to live in Calgary) has completed his Flames preview. I don't agree with everything, but this guy does know the prospects available for the draft - very well.

I hope Morin falls to us if the Flames feel he projects well. Big and mean defencemen that skates well - that is pretty rare.

I don't doubt that the guy knows his prospects, clearly he does, but if the Flames draft Fucale and Stantini with 22 & 28 I'm gonna need a therapist.

Santini I can see. I think Fucale's gone before 22.

I stated that in my "Editor's Comments".
Flames should be a No Goalie Zone in the 1st rnd!

I wouldn't mind Santini, but would prefer others - I think we have Santini-like dmen in the system - give me a puckmoving blueliner with a ton of upside. *cough* Morrissey *cough*

I would be okay if the Flames didn't draft a goalie in this year's draft. If they do, it needs to be in the very late rounds. Looking at their abundance of possibilities in goal that are already in the organization, it would be better to go against their instincts and do the opposite. Pull a Costanza for one draft please.
Stay on the board and draft skilled centers, right wings, and defensemen.

I think Krahn and Irving scared this scouting staff straight regarding goalies.

Fan 960 did an on air mock draft last night where the Flames ended up with (6) Horvat, (22) Santini, (28) Hartman. Loubo took a lot of heat for Horvat over Monahan and Lindholm all through the show. I'm guessing the station will take some heat over the lack lustre draft for the Flames this morning (imo).

I can see the Flames going for Horvat at 6 too, especially if Monahan is gone.

If we took Horvat over Lindholm, in that case, we would be the laughing stock of the draft. We would have to trade down for him.

I'm not so sure. Horvat is said to be the best defensive forward in the draft and is just as offensive as Monahan.
I think if Horvat was 6'2 instead of 6'0 he would be ranked much higher. Horvat is also built like a brick #### house. Very solid.

I like Horvat, but he put up sub point/game numbers on the freakin Knights.
Monahan played well above a point/game on the worst team in the entire CHL.
They are not close offensively.

Bo Horvat is a good player. But to take him at 6 would be ridiculous with Monahan and Lindholm or Nichushkin on the board. But that's just my take on it. Making that pick is kind of like throwing in the towel on the draft when they couldn't trade up to grab MacKinnon or Barkov.
Personal opinion but I will be very disappointed if they make that pick over Lindholm or Monahan. And I don't think I am wrong.

I haven't seen Horvat play myself and I've seen very little of Monahan as well. But, part of that difference could also be attributed to TOI, player's role (i.e. I believe Horvat was utilized on the PK and for face offs quite a bit), etc.. It's hard to compare number straight up in that sense.
From what I've seen of both Monahan and Lindholm though, I'd hope that the Flames draft one of them at #6. If they really wanted, I think they could drop down and pick Horvat.

With Horvat though, it sounds like his skills could translate really well to the NHL. When I read about him, I can't help but think of Craig Conroy.
That's not a statement on Monahan though. I like them both and wonder if the gap between them is really that big.
