Nino Niederreiter requests trade.
Quote:
NEW YORK -- Nino Niederreiter's camp has requested a trade from the New York Islanders, a source told ESPNNewYork.com.
The former first-round pick (5th overall, 2010) is unhappy with his current situation, the source said, and feels he would be best served playing somewhere other than with the Islanders organization.

Wow, I think the Flames should kick tires on Nino since he and Bartschi played together with Portland and internationally.

Would you be willing to give up Backlund?
Not so sure I'm sold on Nino. His performance in the NHL so far has been downright awful.

It's a classic case of 'buying low'. Nino still has all-world talent.
The Isles need a defender badly due to Visnovsky staying with Bratislava.

I would do Cammy for Nino in a heartbeat, not sure if the Flames would.

A nice opportunity, but are the Flames prepared to sacrifice something from the current team to address the future? They still think they've got a playoff team together.

Feaster should investigate but be a little cautious. Would Bouwmeester waive to go there?

Why do players hate playing for the Isles so much?? Especially with the move to Brooklyn coming up?

Tavares, Moulson, Parenteau, Streit, Okposo are all very good hockey players, and better than most Calgary Flames

Can't say I blame him. The way the Islanders have treated him is absolutely ridiculous.

Mainly management and ownership I assume. Long Island is a lovely place.

Tavares, Grabner and Hamonic beg to differ. I would love to get Niederrieter, but there is little doubt he has been a massive disappointment thus far.

Picking up guys like Nino are the type of trades that can actually prevent a team from going on a 3 or 4 year slide, making the slide perhaps 2 years instead.
If the Flames really wanted to try a quick rebuild this is probably their last year to do it. Perhaps 2 games in is not the time, but if this team has limited success in the first 10 games I sure hope that they are listening to any and all offers for Bouwmeester, Iginla, Cammy and Tanguay. Those guys are probably still worth a combined 3 top level prospects and 3 mid level prospects.
