Cleary bails out of Flyers deal, back to Detroit.

$2.75/yr for 3 yrs and a ntc. Weird for a team in cap hell.

Paul Holmgren does know that there is a salary cap, right?

took a quick look at it and it actually works fine once Pronger is gone to LTIR. That top 9 looks scary.

Flyers actually look good on paper but I think they need some cap room. They are a team like the leafs we should target in a trade for an over priced player like Mezaross or Coburn

Dan Cleary is a quality hockey player.
Isn't it about time for Kimmo Timonen to, ya know, buy an assisted-living condo in Arizona, drive an old Buick Grand Regal around town with one turn signal going the whole time, and trying to buy prune juice with expired newspaper coupons from a different city?

Clearly is a good hockey player, but players his age tend to drop off precipitately at pretty much any time. Especially the guys that rely on hard work over natural talent. 3 years is too risky IMO but risk seems to be the Flyer's MO.

Hrmm, guess that means Gagne won't be getting a contract from them.

This is what I was thinking and it doesn't make much sense. So, either Cleary's going to play 2LW or 3LW, with BSchenn playing where he doesn't. Well, Gagne would probably be about as effective in either spot, and come in about a million bucks cheaper on a one year deal, if not more.
If anyone watched Cleary last year it's pretty obvious he's dropped off a cliff, his knees are shot. Trust me when I say that, as much as Cleary's contributions to the cup and finals runs are something everyone will have fond memories of, every Red Wings fan is currently laughing his balls off at that contract.
And a NTC to boot... just brutal.

3 years and a ntc? What the hell? Who else was bidding for Cleary? That's ridiculous

thank god he finally signed somewhere as wings fans were still afraid that he would be retained at the expense of younger players. mike babcock had a strange man crush on cleary and gave him way too many minutes. most wings fans are celebrating this move.

That's a early July contract, not an early September contract. Nice add, but don't like the contract.

yeah, but wouldn't you prefer Cleary over Samuelsson? Just saying
I like Cleary, but that contract is a typical Holmgren-WTF-move.

As I Flyers fan even I can't justify this deal. I have lost hope in Holmgren, he is actually getting worse IMO than Sutter was in his crazy years at the end in Calgary.
Brutal deals with NTC for everyone. As I have stated before the Flames should be calling to see what it would take to get Brayden Schenn from the Flyers. It may be less than we think.

The Flyers have either the best scouting in the NHL or they are the luckiest. Having Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek emerge as top league talent is the only thing keeping this team relevant.
