my random mock
1. Colorado Avalanche→ Nathan Mackinnon C→ You have to select the best player available. Nathan is that player. Trade Matt Ducene for a stud D-man. Maybe Paul Stastny but I feel his value would be pretty low.
2. Florida Pathers→ Jonathin Drouin LW,C→ I think defence is harder to project, for that reason Tallon goes with a sure thing who compares to Claude Giroux.
3. Tampa Bay→Seth Jones D→ I still think he’s the biggest boom/bust of the big 3 and for this reason I think he falls. Tampa bay is thrilled because he’s the guy they need most.
4. Nashville→ Sasha Barkov C→ While I feel like the predators could trade down with the Flames to select Monahon (he just seems like David Poile’s ideal player), the need for offense may be too tempting to pass and the Pred’s pick the most exciting Finish prospect I can remember.
5. Carolina→ Darnell Nurse D→ Big, strong, with good bloodlines. This is not a sexy pick but the Canes are creating a group of hard to play against players. Ryan Murphy will help on the powerplay, but it’s yet to be seen if he can play 5-on-5 at the NHL level. Nichuskin, Lindholm or Ristolainen would be good picks too.
6. Calgary→ Sean Monahon C→ The flames have a couple of skilled winger prospects in John Gaudreau and Sven Bartschi, I think putting a big mean center in between those two smaller guys is exactly what they need. The Flames are the easiest to pick in this draft besides Nashville, either its Monahon or Lindholm.
7. Edmonton→ Rasmus Ristolainen D→ Ok. If Edmonton doesn’t pick a d-man I will laugh when Pierre McGuire loses his mind. He is right though. I watch the Oilers play quite a bit and face it oilers fans, the D is just awful. There is 1 puck moving d, and he still needs work in his own zone. And a bunch of 4/5 d. There is a serious need for the big fin d-man or Nurse depending on which is on the board. He’s mean, strong and can play all areas of the game. Big fan of his. If I was Edmonton I would try and package one of my young players (Eberle, The Nuge or Yakupov) and this pick and try to get Seth Jones.
8. Buffalo→Elias Lindholm C,RW→ Skill, Speed, Defensive Awareness, Can play both Center or Wing, this kid is a stud, 30 points in the SEL in his draft year, wow!! This is a guy they need. Deep draft this guy could usually go top 3.
9. New Jersey→ Valeri Nichuskin C,RW→ The Russian factor comes into play again. No problem for New Jersey as they get a big talented player to be groomed but a great player in Kovalchuk. I can’t see Nichuskin falling past this pick. The 36 fans attending the hosting cities draft will go insane.
10. Dallas→ Nikita Zadorov D→ The potential of this kid, a 6’5 defencemen with skill, is very high. Too good to pass on.
11. Philadephia→ Hunter Shinkaruk LW→ Holmgren is upset because he thought one of the 4 big d-men might fall. Not the case so he goes with BPA in Shinkaruk to provide some goals in a few years.
12. Phoenix → Valentin Zykov RW→ Phoenix needs offence because they have a great group of D-men. He might not have to move far if Phoenix gets relocated to Quebec City.
13. Winnipeg→ Bo Horvat→ Winnipeg could use some offense as they already have a blue chipper dman from last year in Trouba. Horvat is a goal scorer, nothing pretty but he will get 20 ugly ones every year for a long time
14. Columbus→ Frederic Gauthier C→ They are building a defensive, hard to play against squad, add in another big center to pair with Ryan Johansen and they are that much tougher.
15. New York Islanders→ Josh Morrisey D→ The islanders just lost Mark Streit. He was their best player for a long time before JT took that claim. They need a puck mover eventually. This guy could turn out to be a steal.
16. Buffalo→ Ryan Pulock D→ Tyler Myers forgot how to play hockey. Ryan Miller needs help.
17. Ottawa→ Ryan Hartman RW→ This guy is great. I can’t see him falling out of the top 20. Speed, Tenacity, Energy. He’s already got a U20 gold and was one of the better players on the team.
18. Detroit→ Alexander Wennberg C→ Seems like a Detroit pick to me. Highly skilled Swede probably will go earlier that 18
19. Columbus→ Max Domi→ Scratch what I said about a defensive squad. The Jackets need offence. I see weaknesses in his game. However he is highly skilled and that is just too good to pass up at this point.
20. San Jose→ Anthony Mantha→ 50 goals in the q? thank you very much.
21. Toronto→ Zachary Fucale G→ The leafs have no goaltending prospects that project to be starters. I know leaf nation is in love with Reimer right now, but that is only because he played well at the end of the season. The guy is up and down and his glove hand is a joke. They have good young players up front and on the blue line. Fucale is under-rated.
22. Calgary→ Curtis Lazar C → I know everyone has a goalie with one of Calgary’s later picks, but I think the flames have too many needs on D and forward that they are willing to be patient with prospects like Gillies and Brossoit. Lazar reminds me of Daymond Langkow and would be a perfect second line center. With the selections of Jankowski, Monahon and Lazar the flames finally have some prospectss with top 6 potential.
23. Washington→ Samuel Morin D→ With the effect Chara has on the game, someone is going to fall in love with Sam Morin. In this case it’s the Caps.
24. Vancouver→ Nicholas Petan→ The ‘nucks have a lot of hard working young players. They could use some skill. 120 points. I can’t see him sliding this far but when you do watch him there are some question marks.
25. Monreal→ Kerby Rychel W → Power forward. Addresses their perennial lack-of-size problem.
26. Anaheim→ Steve Santini D→ The Mighty could get a little mightier. Steve is another non-sexy pick but he helps your team win the game. They have a lot of skill in Hampus Lindholm and Fowler, but not enough bangers.
27. Columbus→ Adam Erne C→ Guy reminds me of Daymond Langkow. Just another guy who loves to go to the dirty areas to score ugly goals. Columbus continues to stockpile young forwards.
28. Calgary→ Ian McCosen D→ The flames are small, the big skilled defencemen helps.
29. Boston→ Robery Hagg D→ Potential, but he also needs work in his own zone.
30. Chicago→ Madison Bowey→ The ‘hawks like d who can skate. Bowey fits the bill and comes from a d-man factory in Kelowna.
I apologize for my spelling and grammar. Just for fun, I encourage criticism.

I suppose some will mock you for making a thread of this, and perhaps rightfully so... Though I must say, I quite like your picks and explanations, well done sir!
Also, I love your picks for the Flames at 6 and 22... I don't know the guy at 28 so I can't say.

I'll play.
Jones will go top 2 and Drouin to Tampa.
I think you are right that Carolina takes Nurse but they trade down to #7 to take him. Edmonton takes Monahan at #5.
Flames get Lindholm at #6
Hard to disagree with what you have afer #10. Its really a crap shoot which team picks what. I do think Lazar goes before the flames #22 pick.
Think you might be bang on with the #28 pick if the flames don't go with a D at #22.

I'm still predicting that the Flames get the #2 pick and get MacKinnon....

Feaster and co also know this which is one reason we probably won't be picking at 6, I don't think they want Lindholm at all.

I think getting to #5 is going to be tough for the flames. They dont have a 2nd round pick and i think Edmonton can offer more than a 3rd round pick.
I would not say the Flames do not want Lindholm. I do think they would rather have Barkov or Monahan but Lindholm is no slouch.

Honestly, I think the top 3 players are amazing but 4-10 seem to be all pretty solid players. If the Flames are going to spend assets to move up, it'd better be top 3 otherwise just take the player they value most out of who's left

I personally think Monahan will turn out better than Jones or Barkov

If it were truly random it would look more like:
1. Colorado - That kid named Kevin that wants to be my daughter's boyfriend.
2. Florida - The 8th person aged 18 to walk into Disney World this morning.
. . . and so on.

No way Jones falls out of the top two IMO. Florida would snatch him up if MacKinnon was gone IMO. CAR doesn't like drafting defencemen and has said they only have 1 defenceman in their top 6 (Jones) so I think they go forward if they stay at #5. IMO Zykov and Ristolainen with go lower than you project.

The Oilers would most likely, and rightly so, look for a centre at that spot.
