Which team killed it at the draft?
Obviously most of us are really happy with how the Flames drafted tonight but there were other teams with multiple picks that fared pretty well also.
Columbus' draft stood out to me as amazing. Buffalo Loaded up on great D prospects and I think even though I hate to say it, the Oilers did well also. Especially in the third round. What are your thoughts?

Columbus, Calgary, Edmonton, Buffalo and Vancouver all had a solid one.
San Jose was a head scratcher.

Buffalo got two really nice d-men in the first and that is enough for a great draft IMO.

EDM seemed to walk away with many players that were coveted on CP over the past few months

Yeah, but in a few years time they'll still be employing a 38 year old goalie to the tune of $6 million against the cap.....and then for a few more years after that even.

Also, Honorable mention to Dallas. I am going to HATE the fact that Nichushkin is going to be running around with Benn and Eriksson.

I think the Flyers did pretty well for themselves. Along with goalies, drafting and developing defensemen has been a glaring weakness for the Flyers. Every blueliner of any consequence in recent memory has been either traded for or pick up as a UFA.
In Samuel Morin they get a huge, physical, mean player with some offensive upside. They also got Robert Hagg in the second round who was projected in a lot of circles to be a first rounder and become a reliable all-around defenseman.
I was certain the Flyers would trade their higher picks for short-term gain but they surprised me and took players they could pay off well in the long run.

I have no idea what they did after, but I'm still jealous of the Avs taking McKinnon.

Same with Nashville, the consensus number one pick for the better part of this year slid to them in the four hole, and we all know how great Trotz and his staff are at developing defensive prospects. On any other team who knows what might have happened to Jones, but I think he'll be that much better playing on the first pairing with Weber.

If any other team had drafted Jones at 4 I would agree, but I think Nashville could have used MacKinnon or Barkov badly. Although they could trade Weber for a very good return of forwards and start building around their other impressive young defensemen.

Winners:
- Buffalo, nice pair of defensemen
- Detroit, traded down and still got a 50-goal man. Mantha could've easily been the BPA at 18.
- Tampa, didn't get distracted by Jones and got a lethal partner for Stamkos in Drouin. Erne was a nice value pick too.

Calgary. Two great picks for 22 and 28th but love the 6th. No one can complain about the pick.

BUF/DAL/CLB A+
Calgary was with the 1-4 teams as an A
Quote:
After dismantling their team ahead of the trade deadline, Calgary needed to hit with their three first-round picks, and I think they did. The Flames needed size and got a big center in Sean Monahan, who has the upside to play in the top-six with high-end skill. Emile Poirier adds grit and speed -- with a knack for scoring big goals -- while displaying a great second effort in all three zones. Morgan Klimchuk is a two-way, hard-working forward who scored in junior, but he's my question mark among the Flames' top three picks and the reason I held back from giving them an A+. If he matures and adds strength, he has a chance to be a depth forward with upside as a third liner. I just think other players on the board had more to offer at No. 28, but Klimchuk does fill a need. Third-rounder Keegan Kanzig is 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds. If he plays that will be an added bonus. Like I said earlier, size was an obvious need and it was addressed.

http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/ey...d-pick-in-2013
compared to above just shows how vastly different one opinion can be from another in the draft
the ESPN grade has Klimchuk the question mark and Poirier the solid pick
the CBS one gives the Klimchuk pick a B and Poirier a D+

CBJ, Buff, Oilers, Flames all did well at the draft. Next year should be no different only difference we will be picking closer to 1st over all.
