A group of Israeli soldiers have been disciplined after posting pictures of themselves in their underwear on Facebook in the latest social media embarrassment to hit Israel's armed forces.
There are thong covered bums....

This is what happens when you get conscripted and you have no interest in being in the military.
I think it's a bit much to expect 18 year old girls to stop acting like 18 year girls the moment they get drafted. These were recruits in basic training, not hardened vets.
And generally . . . . . it sure is an Army too, conscription or not.
Usually conscription gives you a second rate military but not necessarily in their case.

The big debate right now is around the quality of the Israeli Military and if its taken a step back from it previous campaigns.
The overlying thought is that its never adjusted from a outwarding facing campaign military to a insurgency fighting Military and that's why they really struggled in their last war.
their intelligence gathering and leadership and level of training is still very strong but there are rumbles around moral problems and efficiency issues in the ranks.

Not exactly sure what campaign they "struggled" in last. If you're referring to the Lebanon war, walking into Lebanon fortified with Hamas bunkers has never been a cake walk.
This was against a far less equipped militia than the present day Hezbollah too. Not to mention the rules of war have changed. It's no longer acceptable to carpet bomb city blocks, which means more troops on the ground, which means more casualties.
Since the Lebanon campaign, the Israeli army has fought campaigns in the Gaza Strip with virtually no casualties.
