Help this blind dog named Ray Charles drop the puck at a Bruins game
Quote:
I There’s a petition that has already reached its goal of 2,000 signatures, but a couple thousand more couldn’t hurt right?
|
Quote:
Ray Charles is a blind Golden Retriever who was born on December 8th, 2012. Though he lives without the benefit of sight, it has not hindered his ability to have a full and complete life. He has captured the heart of thousands through his television appearances and Facebook feeds and now we would like to help Ray Charles reach yet another goal.
An avid Boston Bruins fan, Ray would like to drop the puck at a Bruins home game and we need your help to make this happen. For all the joy he has brought us, it seems only fair that we take a few moments to sign his petition.
Ray Charles may not have his sight, but we can still show him how much he means to all of us! Help Ray Charles drop the puck at a Boston Bruins game and keep helping to enrich the wonderful dog’s life!
Thank you!

I am a big dog guy.
That being said, how the hell is a blind dog going to drop the puck at a hockey game? That is something that would take basic coordination, timing, etc.
Also, they know that the dog isn't REALLY a Bruins fan, right? I know it is cute to dress up your dog in your team's gear, but it doesn't make them a 'fan'.

And if he was wearing a Canucks jersey he'd be trying to bite everyone.

I'm sure his owner would lead him to center ice and give him commands to drop the puck. Chances are the owner has already trained the dog to do this.

Don't be such a debbie downer! Leading a dog to center ice in a Bruins jersey with a hat on is a great idea. Not mention all the publicity and good PR the team would get across North America.

I love dogs, and have never not had one as a companion.
That being said, this is stupid. The dog is a fan of whatever team the owner chooses to dress him as. There are a TON of heroes in Boston right now that should be dropping the puck at playoff games that are of the Human species.
This is just some narcissist dog owner, trying to get sympathy and attention for themselves using their dogs plight.

Exactly, the honour to drop the puck at a playoff game should be given to a being that is capable of appreciating the magnitude. Lots of options there.
Frankly, blindness in a dog isn't even that big of a disability. You don't see a scentless human inspecting the ceremonial balls at the Westminster dog show, do you?

I agree completely. Maybe in part because I know dogs and dog behaviour pretty well (I have also lived with dogs for my entire adult life) I can see through this for what it is: a ploy on the part of the owner to get a chance for HIM to drop the puck at a Bruins game. Ray Charles's life will in no way be "enriched" through this event, and it would present virtually no difference to the dog's happiness and well being than were he to not do this. This really is stupid.

There would be virtually no difference to my happiness and well being if I didn't get to drop a piece of vulcanized rubber in the middle of a rink.
How come many hockey legends and celebrities got to drop the puck? To gain a surge of lifelong happiness?

I don't expect Ray Charles to be enriched or that it will make a difference in the dogs life. What I see is an owner who really loves his dog and posts pictures of him in funny outfits. It started out with the owner posting pictures on his facebook page and from there it went viral with the media picking up on it.

Ray Charles is an internet hit for dog lovers everywhere. Not only because he's a blind dog, but for his uncanny sense of style and fashion. Here are 19 photos for you to enjoy of Ray Charles during his many modeling sessions. There are also some of him having fun with his toys. When he's not busy napping or playing with the many toys people have sent him.
Ray is now taking Facebook by storm, with his own page with over 20,000 "likes."

I could be wrong but from what i've read it's the fans of Boston who started the petition and want the dog to drop the puck at a game.

It's not about dog nor owner, it's about Bruins marketing. And letting a blind dog, who is very popular, to drop the puck may be good marketing event, possibly better, than letting one of the legends to do it. People tend to care about cute dogs more, than they do about legends.

If you want to do what is in the dogs best interest, how about taking him to the park and letting him sniff the asses of other dogs, and the trails of varmints for an hour. That would be infinitely more fulfilling to a dog that has no concept of what his outfits mean, marketing, or what the Bruins or Hockey for that matter, even are.
Again, this is purely a vanity project for the dogs owner. Nothing else.

Boston Fans would probably start booing the dog if it didn't drop the puck fast enough, I love dogs so I can't vote for that to happen.

Meh, we already have four visually impaired zebras on the ice, at least Ray Charles won't have an impact on the actual outcome of the game.

Dropping the puck would be much more fulfilling to the owner than say, Bobby Orr dropping the puck
