Icon56 Lawless: Burmistrov wants out of Winnipeg

It is Gary Lawless so take it with a grain of salt.

Quote:
Two league sources have told the Free Press Burmistrov, due to become a restricted free agent on July 5, has no intention of re-signing with the Jets.
Burmistrov wished to be dealt at the trade deadline and the Jets worked in vain to move him. It appears a trade is still the preferred course of action.

The Jets attempted to trade Burmistrov and reportedly had discussions with the Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders at the deadline. The names Jakob Silfverberg, Drew Stafford and Kyle Okposo have all been attached to Burmistrov trade rumours.

Contacted Tuesday, Burmistrov's agent Mark Gandler had little to say.
"The only question I'm going to answer is to say that Alex is not going to sign in the KHL," said the longtime NHL agent.
Asked a number of questions, including if Burmistrov wanted to be traded, Gandler stuck to his response, repeatedly offering a variety of Burmistrov-to-KHL denials.

Trade Pens pick for Burmistrov and draft Nichushkin.

Depending on the price, I'd be happy if we got him.

I'd rather do something like Cammalleri for Burmistrov and draft a player with that pick. That first rounder is after all the heir apparent to the Nilsson>Nieuwendyk>Iginla chain.

I'd gladly take Burmistrov!

... but not at those prices. I'd deal the Pittsburgh or St. Louis pick for him though.

Can someone tell me what's so great about Burmistrov? Just looking at his stat line, he doesn't put up points.

I am not sure anyone is saying that there is a lot great with Burmistrov but he is a 21 year old kid that has shown offensive talent and hasn't looked that out of place in the NHL.

I don't think many expect more than a solid 2nd line guy which is why the names Okposo, Stafford and Silvferberg are tossed around instead of Tavares, Spezza and Vanek.

I don't know... it depends on why he would want out of Winnipeg. If he wants the excitement of a huge metropolitan center like NY or LA, or palm trees and beaches like Florida or Anaheim, then chances are he wouldn't welcome Calgary either.

Former top 10 pick that looks to need a change of scenery. Would gladly take that risk and see what pans out. Though I agree with the previous posts that the "rumoured returns" sound completely out of whack.

Burmistrov's play has not warrented him being in the same conversation as any of the three players mentioned above. Add to that the fact his own coach feels he is better served not being in the lineup and the value is further reduced.

This is just like the Nino Niederieter rumours. Would love to take a chance on a young talent like these guys, but IMO the return better not include any of our strong future assets. I just don't see there being a huge lineup of teams looking to trade for this guy at anything less than bargain prices.

We have lots of undersized young C. That said he has a bunch of potential so if the price is right I would consider it.

The Flames should be knocking at the door when guys like Neiderrater, Turris, and Brumistrov become available. Buying low on high end prospects doesn't happen often.

At the same time if you can't buy low, or if your scouts don't see a fit, then move on.

Headline: X player wants out of Y city/Is on waivers/Is on the trading block.
Stock Response: Calgary should definitely pick up this player for a bag of pucks! People love our garbage!

I think he wants out because they were using him on the 4th line.

Don't think i would trade a 1st for him.

To me, he could replace Stajan. Points wise there is a big difference as Stajan had 23 points and a +7 over 43 games where Burmistrov had 10 points and was a +/- 0. But I also think he was under utilized in Winnipeg.

A group of 4 centers like, Backlund, Burmistrov, Reinhart and God willing Barkov would go a very long way to solving all of Calgary's issues down the middle of the ice for a very very long time.

Which is why I would like the Flames to pick him up cheaply and hopefully why he would come cheaply.

As for the Points, I think there is much more to be had from him... He was rushed to the NHL and has played on some pretty poor teams (which underutilized him). But he's got good underlaying stats (Corsi) and the eye test says that he's a defensively responsible center. Take those bits and that I think he has offensive upside yet to emerge and that strikes me as a desirable pick-up at the right price.

He had more points last year than Backlund has ever had in his career, and is also reliable defensively like Backlund. It's way too early to write him off.

He's 21 years old and has played in the NHL for three years... yes clearly he will never accomplish anything ever and not improve one iota.

I wouldn't trade any of our late 1sts for him. He's not that good.
