For his comments regarding the Torres suspension.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=671259

His comments found in this article:

http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-...0-gms-comments

Quote:
Wilson said Friday that the organization strongly disagreed with the NHL's decision to suspend Torres.

"It is abundantly clear that this was a clean hockey hit," Wilson said in a statement. "As noted by the NHL, Raffi's initial point of contact was a shoulder-to-shoulder hit on an opponent who was playing the puck. He did not leave his feet or elevate, he kept his shoulder tucked and elbow down at his side, and he was gliding—not skating or charging."
Quote:
"It appears that the NHL has not only made an inappropriate application of this rule but is trying to make an example out of a player who is being judged on past events, one who has changed his game dramatically this season and taken only six minor penalties in 39 games," Wilson said.

That's steep... Though I assume the team is paying for it, not Wilson... They may have actually even considered it before making the statement, who knows.

What did he say, exactly? ... That article doesn't say.

That's enormous. I don't even think that the league fined Torres for the hit.

According to the TSN article, it was the team that was fined, not Wilson himself

$25,000 was automatic for making a formal statement within 48 hours of the suspension. The other $75,000 was for the content of what they said.

I bet it was the accusation that did him in, not so much the opinion of the hit itself.

I believe that the NHL acted properly with the Torres suspension and, if anything, he got off easy. Wilson's and others' remarks were uncalled for and the fine looks good on them.

Just me (and I guess Wilson) but I thought it was a good hockey hit, the history of hockey is full of injuries from hits, unfortunate injury but it will be a sad day for the sport when players are afraid to throw a solid hit. It's already happening really, the new thinking has destroyed the effectiveness of players like Phaneuf,Kronwall..etc.

I agree, the open ice hit will be extinct soon... I still say modifications to player equipment could have avoided all this.

Is there even a process for appealing a team fine?

It looks good on him anyway, head shots like that have no place in the game anymore.

Care to elaborate on how different equipment could have avoided all of this?

What are precedents for fines on GMs/teams? Sounded steep to me but I don't really know what's been handed out previously.
