Default The Official 2012/13 Thread for the English Cups & Football League

Yeah, I know that we're in the middle of Euro 2012, and I should have bigger fish to fry, but the league fixtures for next season have just come out.

And the draw for the first round of the Capital One Cup (I still remember it when it was the Milk Cup) has already happened too.

These cup matches take place in the week beginning 13th August (before the start of the league season, strangely);

Derby County v Scun'thorpe United
Rochdale v Barnsley
Port Vale v Burnley
Notts County v Bradford City
Hull City v Rotherham United
Fleetwood Town v Nottingham Forest
Carlisle United v Accrington Stanley
Doncaster Rovers v York City
Crewe Alexandra v Hartlepool United
Bury v Middlesbrough
Chesterfield v Tranmere Rovers
Sheffield United v Burton Albion
Blackpool v Morecambe
Leeds United v Shrewsbury Town
Preston North End v Huddersfield Town
Oldham Athletic v Sheffield Wednesday
Cheltenham Town v Milton Keynes Dons
Ipswich Town v Bristol Rovers
Stevenage v AFC Wimbledon
Exeter City v Crystal Palace
Yeovil Town v Colchester United
Birmingham City v Barnet
Bristol City v Gillingham
Northampton Town v Cardiff City
Plymouth Argyle v Portsmouth
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aldershot Town
Walsall v Brentford
Millwall v Crawley Town
Torquay United v Leicester City
Dagenham & Redbridge v Coventry City
Peterborough United v Southend United
Swindon Town v Brighton & Hove Albion
Watford v Wycombe Wanderers
Charlton Athletic v Leyton Orient
Oxford United v AFC Bournemouth

And the highlights of the league fixture list can be found here;
Championship
League One
League Two

Good luck to all you followers of lower division football, hope your seasons are filled with excitement.

Cheers.

I think he could've easily played for an EPL team. He was on a much shorter leash than Foster. Perhaps he loves the English coasts in the winter? lol.

Gus has a lot of star power right now. People like what he's been able to do down here. Prying Vicente away from Spain was impressive. Having a guy with 30-odd international caps on your Championship side is a sign that people want to come and play for you. My sense is that Gus will sign another current or former EPL player or 2 to bolster his squad. It's going to be a difficult season for them and he'll want to strengthen his fullbacks and another creative midfielder if Vicente goes.

Big signing for the Albion, very big signing. We like this.

Wayne Bridge joins Brighton from Man City on a season-long loan

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18740583

Gus has got his 2 fullbacks. First Bruno Saltor, ex-Valencia, now Bridge. This might convince Vicente to stay and honour his contract. Might be a good year on the south coast.

Capital One cup on today.

Liverpool throwing in the towel against WBA. Doesnt look like Rodgers is too keen on getting that first win.

What is going on with Spurs? Cudiccini gets the start, so they're resting Friedel. Fine. No Lloris at all, and Gomes is still around? Hes become 4th choice keeper now? How the mighty have fallen....

Not to mention, according to the team news I'm seeing, Spurs now think they're Spain. Who needs strikers when you have 6 midfielders.....

I don't know, Locke. The young kids, and Carra, did pretty good. Way better than the senior side did against WBA. Liked what I saw today.

Youngest player in their history too. 16 years 5 days of something. The kid was 15 last week and this week played for Liverpool's 1st team! Awesome.

Ya our whole team was very young today. I read that the average age of the starting 11 was just over 23, and the average age if the bench was just over 18. 23 is pretty incredible when you consider that included Carra and Jones.

Chelsea and Man U fans I am guessing are not happy about this draw at this stage.

Its not really a big deal, you have to go through them eventually.

Liverpool had to go through Chelsea and City last year. Granted, you're right in that this is much earlier in the competition, it might do the losing team a favour later on in the season though.

Agreed. The Cup win, when combined with a CL or Prem win, is frosting on the cake. On its own, not so much.

If United is eliminated it allows more time between future CL & Prem matches in the months ahead, as Locke mentioned .

Yesterday evening I flew in from London as I had gone back for two weeks. During this time Arsenal managed to score one goal. Despite the near uncontrollable urge, I restrained myself from delaying my flight by a day in order to make the short trip to the Madjeski.

Last time I act responsibly...

Not entirely unexpected. Another nail in Rodgers' coffin IMO.

His old club out-possessed, out-chanced and out-played Liverpool all night. Well done Brendan.

Also, seriously, this Azilpucueta chap needs a South American nickname.

Norwich win 2-1 after being down 1-0 today in the League Cup. The winner is bagged by our Canadian Canary Simeon Jackson. Norwich have played well vs. Tottenham in recent matches, even though both teams made quite a number of lineup changes for this one.

Regardless, they now have a spot in the quarterfinals!
