Default 3 biggest solar flares of year all within 24 yesterday. Q the global warming disc.

Interesting, but near meaningless as they all occurred on the side of the sun not facing us. Apparently if they occur on the side facing us, it can "trigger massive geomagnetic storms, jam satellites, ground airplanes, and precipitate global radio blackouts.”

That seemed interesting. Also, they are the magnitude of "X" - the largest of the logarithmic scale (x10) they have, although there is a scale within the X magnitude as well.

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/05...iod-yesterday/

The reason for the global warming comment in my thread title? The discussion on the comment page of the national post seems to be all directed towards global warming.

Whether you agree or disagree with global warming..... it seems like a solar flare should have zero impact on that discussion, as I don't see how they could be related at all?

Are you suggesting the sun has nothing to do with climate on earth?

I am asking the question, how do 3 solar flares, facing the opposite direction of the earth, affect the climate of the earth on any grand scale?

Without doing any research, I would say it is a fairly safe assumption the output energy of a solar flare is nothing compared to the total output energy of the sun. They are also "one off's" where the sun is outputting energy every moment.

So I am saying these solar flares shouldn't ever be brought up in a global warming discussion.

The sun is like a couple thousand times bigger then earth. So any small output of energy from the sun, no matter how insignificant is seems, is going to affect the earth.

Solar Flare victims on Tatooine, it had nothing to do with Storm Troopers who were at lunch at the time of the Flare

I'm waiting for people to say the reason for solar flares is global warming.

Solar flares heating up the earth sounds like an argument that climate change is a natural process and not caused by humans to me.

Unless the oil sands are changing the chemistry of the sun...

Was that from both of its suns at once?

Sun is only about a 100 times bigger than the earth but you can fit about one million earths in the sun.

I said solar flares are caused by global warming, not global warming is caused by solar flares. I didn't think green text was needed.

Phew, good we can all relax then.

We just hit a record, 400 ppm co2 which is the highest in 3.4 million years. Good thing we have nothing to worry about.

What i said was true? and 400 ppm co2!! the trees/plants are gonna love that. Also 3.4 million years? That is the fourth number i have heard about when the last time we hit 400 ppm.

And yes there is no doubt we have things to worry about - but the we weren't going to continue this trend of stable climate forever, regardless of what our impact is. (and it is a huge one)

Sure, now you're sitting there all worried about the composition of the atmosphere, when suddenly, from behind you, comes your untimely end. Boom. Manbearpig. Half man. Half bear. Half pig.

People/animals dying have also been happening for billions of years as a natural process.

That doesn't mean a specific incident of someone dying (i.e. someone murdering someone) is natural.

X is a natural process therefore this incident of X is natural is a logical fallacy.
