Personally, I'd recommend a ford Product - but that is because I am a Ford product driver. Oh, you will get some other recommendations, but personally I'd go with the ford.

I was just at toyota this morning for oilchange on my corolla and browse around. The new Rav4 is bigger and wider compare to last years model. I believe the new Rav4 only comes with 4 cylinders only and no V6 and also comes optional 4 wheel drive. This years crv just comparing to the previous CRV looks smaller and boxier on the exterior. The other brands im not really familiar as i mainly driven both honda and toyota ally life. The other car companies really catches up both on style and quality. Just go to youtube and and im sure you will find video comparisons of SUV's/crossovers. I guess you can tell im inclining more on honda and toyota because i know they are really great vehicles both on quality and durability.

I would look at a Mazda 5 if the new models ever get their new engine package and your wife liked the mini van doors or you have the need for 6 seats.
If you need the extra seating still and want a smaller size your options are Chevy Orlando, Mitsubish Outlander and the Mazda 5. Everything else is just 5 seaters. If you aren't ever going to tow anything I think that the four cyclinder models have enough power and get significantly better fuel economy. Also if smaller is what you are looking for I find getting a narrower vehicle makes a bigger difference in how a vehicle feels than getting a shorter vehicle.

I just went through the same process in December, went in believing that I would buy a forigen vehicle (leaning towards mazda).
....Walked in, test drove the new escape and was sold. Been driving it for 4 months now, and have absolutely no complaints. Amazing vehicle, and I am SO happe wiht the decision.

Mercedes GLK? That's the one I'm considering to replace our Murano.

I'd look at the new Escape or the new 2014 Kia Sorrento.

I own a 2010 Rav 4, not a bad vehicle, never really had any issues, just had to deal with a few of the recalls. I was in Florida a few weeks back and rented a Ford Escape, very impressed with this ride! The sync system was awesome! I would recommend on checking out Ford.

Funny, I'm having this exact same dilemma. We need a new vehicle, and we've decided to get a CUV.
We've looked at:
Mitsubishi RVR - Nice looking car, ok interior, audio head unit is phenomenal, but under powered (140hp). Great drive, drives like my lancer. Great price though for a GT (comes around 32k)
Toyota Rav4 - wasn't impressed with look or service, so didn't bother taking for a test drive
Honda CRV - Nice interior, reminds me of my old civic (2007). Big ass, okay ride. The price is where I'm slightly turned off, as it's mid 30s for a slightly upgraded model.
Nissan Rogue - Simple interior, but nice. Head unit screen is very functional, but small. Comfortable, and really nice ride. Best thing? They're redesigning the Rogues for next year, so this year they are offering up to 5k in incentives. So I can get a fully loaded Rogue for about 31-32k all in. The CVT is kind of annoying in it, as it takes a bit to wind up.
Ford Escape - Front runner for me in terms of ride. I loved the bells and whistles that come with it. Comfortable, although I found the seats to be slightly narrow (I'm 6'0, 185 lb). Nice interior throughout. The head unit is slightly frustrating though, unless you are used to Ford products. my problem with this one is the price point is significantly more than the others. high 30s for a model with a decent variety of bells and whistles.
Buick Encore - looked phenomenal in pictures and in person, but the engine is a huge let down. 140hp, and it's a tank. Didn't both taking it for a ride because of the reviews I read regarding the sluggish ride.
Toyota Venza - not quite a CUV, but we test drove one anyways. Gorgeous interior compared to all the others. it is much more luxurious. Drive is really nice, but again, it's not quite what we were looking for in terms of size.
We're going to look at the Mazda CX5 today, and I think we'll make a decision. The front runner for me is the Rogue as it's the best compromise between value and ride. Any thoughts CPers? I'm looking for opinions on those who own any of the above, and for opinions on the Rogue particularly.
Of note, we are not looking at Hyundais or Kias, as both my wife and I have a stigma against both. I know they've made strides, but we've made the decision to stay away.

The overall size is roughly the same size, however the cargo space is much larger is the new model.
Small engine block = larger cabin space.

Have you looked at the Buick Encore? Seems to have some good reviews. Looks great inside. A bit small, but they come at a decent price point for what's included.

I haven't looked at anything yet.
The lease is up on the van in a month or so.
Just looking for opinions to start the search for a replacement.

Scion xB just never gets any love. Have had my 2011 Scion since May 2011, and it is the perfect size for a small family. Still has ton of pep for driving, decent gas mileage, and is extremely comfortable.
Plus, you dont see too many on the road - which I like. Nothing worse than seeing 45 Ford Escapes or something. Nice to be unique a little.

Rented a 2013 Ford Escape during a recent trip, I must say I was quite impressed with how roomy it is.
