Running Events
For all you runners out there.
I'm looking for a 'database' of sorts to find upcoming races in Edmonton and Calgary. I'm familiar with some of the larger events (ie police half), but is there somewhere I can go to find an event by date?
Similarly, what about routes for said events? Is there somewhere that I can find previous routes for some of these events?
Specifically, I'm looking for a half marathon in late August/early September. So far I've come across the Canadian Diabetes Association marathon in August in Edmonton and the Harvest in September in Calgary.

The Running Room Or The Tech Shop probably have a list, or can tell you where to get one.

Calgary Roadrunners have a schedule on their site, Events Online will have a schedule of their events and Running Room will have a schedule.
There is a bit of a business war going on between Events Online and Running Room so they do not inter list their events and generally the Roadrunners side with Events Online and do not list Running Room events.
So, basically, you need to look at at least three places.
In September, a really good event is the Rocky Mountain Half (and other distances) in Canmore in the second weekend, then Melissa Half and Ten Km in Banff (about 4,500 entries will sell out in about half an hour when they open for registration in February), then the Harvest Half in Calgary in early October.
Coming up in April is the Police Half in Calgary, registration just opened, the Calgary Marathon (and half and other distances) weekend in late May, Footstock Half (and other distances) in Cochrane June 9.
A new race is likely to be announced in the next week, the Run To The Farmers Market Half Marathon in Millarville, coinciding with the opening of the 30th season of the Millarville Farmers Market.
Then the Stampede Half in Calgary in the first week of July.
Threre are other 10 kms and distances throughout the summer.

Little off topic, but has anyone tried the runners injury clinic and can offer reviews?
I have cronic pain in the bone on legs on the lower inner leg. The doctors have no idea (google says microfractrues but xrays say no)

I would suggest getting a referral for a Sports Medicine Doctor from your GP before shelling out the money for the Running Injury Clinic. Chances are you don't need a gait analysis to see what's wrong.

A few years back I shelled out for both and going to see Reed Ferber at the running injury clinic was money well spent as I havent been injured since. Nothing more frustrating than a running injury and many times they are preventable and are caused by poor mechanics and weak hips etc. They used to offer a quick injury specific assessment for $50 and you likely only need to go once. I paid more upfront but the issue is resolved and I was spending way more on physio and other less specific practitioners. Also this clinic is often quoted in Runnersworld and other sources and is doing many ground breaking research studies and are being recognized for the good work that they do.

Gords has a terrible website. http://www.gordsrunningstore.com/events_links.htm
Here is Racepro Timing out of Lethbridge and their lengthy event listings.

I forgot to mention a newer race, Dinosaur Half Marathon in Drumheller in September. Third annual coming up. Havent run it but it looks like they start out in the desert and finish there. Appears to be some trail and gravel running.

You're right, Reed Ferber is awesome. But I would still personally leave the Running Injury Clinic as a 'last resort' of sorts, simply due to wait time and cost.
Chances are if your running injury was something like weak hip abductors (which many of his patients seem to have), then any decent physiotherapist will catch it, and you only need one visit. If not, sports med doctors are covered.
But yes, I agree that it's a great place. I may be headed there soon myself for a lingering, seemingly untreatable issue.

A new event, the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon, opened for registrations today.
This is a 21.1 km, point-to-point half marathon starting in Black Diamond at 7 am on Saturday, June 16, going through Turner Valley and then using paved backcountry roads to finish at the Millarville Farmers' Market as it opens for its 30th season.
Lots of food, music and shopping at the end of the race at Alberta's second largest outdoor Market.
Swag will include a clay-fired finishers medal courtesy of one of the Market vendors.
There will be shuttle bus service before and after the race between Millarville Racetrack and Black Diamond.
Details and registration links for participants and volunteers are here http://www.millarvilleracetrack.com/half-marathon and http://www.events.runningroom.com/site/?raceId=7743
A new, dedicated website will be up in a few weeks.

I've run both the Melissa's half and 10 km many times . . . . . its actually extremely crowded. The Half is fun out on the Banff Golf Course but not much fun at all once you get thousands of people going both directions in back of the Cave N' Basin in the latter part of the race. Ditto the 10 km.
Melissa's is kind of a destination event you should do at least once - and everyone does - but the Rocky Mountain Half in Canmore in early September is probably a more fun event with the same scenery.

The only other half I ran was arizona rock and roll with 50,000 runners at so I am sure melissas can't be that bad. Mostly going to meet up with friends/co workers for the post race party. I will just have to run faster then those other people so I stay ahead of the crowds!

Running in front is always a good plan. I wouldn't know personally but I hear its a good plan.
The most crowded Half I've run was in Amsterdam. Bit of a gong show but you got to finish with a lap inside Olympic Stadium.

My friend works there, and being a non-runner I can't tell you much, but they do some seriously high tech work and hire very smart people. They've had interest from all over in their methodologies.
