So he's been canned in Dallas. Would anyone like to see him back here in some capacity?

Not a chance. He held out for more cash and left town. We owe him nothing.

Not only did he burn bridges here, he then went and signed Pardy to that contract which made me instantly question his abilities as a GM. It isn't like the guy is coming back with a fist full of GM earned cup-rings

Can't see much impressive in what he has done in management that would make us want to have him back here.

That will never happen. When Steve Begin is allowed to wear #25, your number is not being retired/honored/anything.

Plus he burnt bridges.

Edit: Ah. Got it. Oops.

Don't think he was referring to the jersey hanging from the rafters.

When your first move as a general manager is to fire Dave Tippett and replace him with Marc Crawford, the ownership should have instantly realized that he was insane and fired him on the spot.

He should have been the GM of the Dallas Stars for all of 12 minutes. And still damage would have been done.

On the other hand, with attendance dropping and attending games coached by Tippet is akin to watching paint dry, I can see Crawford being hired.

Not in a management role but I would like to see 25 honored someday, as much as everyone likes to rag on his hold out situation , he was a huge part of our Stanley Cup team and contending years.

I don't blame Nieuwendyk for holding out for an improved contract. That was at a time when salaries were climbing rapidly and Flames management was being penny wise and pound foolish. They had just brought in a plugger (Kelly Kisio) with a contract well above what Nieuwendyk (their best forward) was getting. This management attitude cost the Flames Gilmour, Nieuwendyk, and MacInnis.
