Your 5 Favourite Moments From the Flames' 2012/13 Season
Let's try and keep this as optimistic a thread as is humanly possible. I know it's difficult thinking of "good" moments in a crap season like this one. Also, it doesn't necessarily have to be a moment from the Flames. It can be a moment from the Flames organization in general (i.e., prospects, Heat, etc.)
For me, my top 5 favourite moments were:
1.) The Flames management finally going into rebuild mode.
2.) The emergence of TJ Brodie into who I think will be top pairing defenseman in time. His stick skills and head fakes never cease to amaze me.
3.) Johnny Gaudreau topping last year's extremely impressive season. His sheer dominance in the WJC as well as being nominated for the Hobey Baker was just an excellent campaign to watch as a fan.
4.) Mikael Backlund. While he's by no means strong (which is something he'll definitely have to work on), I've really liked the skill he's shown since returning from injury. He's had a nice nose for the net and seems to be in the right place at the right time a lot of the time.
5.) The Heat going 13-2-2-2 in their first 19 games. At that time, they were the best team playing in North America. That was a wild ride. As a Heat fan, it was fun watching this team knock off visiting teams week after week.

1) The crowd chanting Mikka at his final home game.
2) The goal by Backlund I think it was but Backlund, Baertschi, Brodie and Cundari celebrating together.
3) Hudler dazzles us with his skill in his first few games (still good)
4) The young guys coming up and contributing.
5) Backlund's play

Lee Stempniak's goal earlier on in the season when he unleashed a lazer coming down the wing
Cundari's first NHL goal....what a beauty!

Good thread. My favourite moments/developments this year
1. Flames going into a rebuild mode
2. Jay Feaster announcing the Iginla trade and leaving certain members of the media with egg on their face
3. TJ Brodie's emergence
4. Backlund's maturation
5. Kipper's last home game

I wouldn't call most of those "moments"... developments sounds more like what you're describing.
My 5 favorite moments...
1: Kipper's solo center ice skate and stick raise to the adoring crowd.
2: Soft-spoken noted non-pugalist Mikael Backlund dropping the gloves in response to someone hurting a teammate.
3: Mark Cundari's first NHL goal (I always find firsties to be favorite moments and that was a beaut) after talking about he was happy to be somewhere where he would finally be appreciated.
4: Max Reinhart's first NHL goal in front of his mom and brother.
5: McGrattan's "Reporting For Duty" post-fight murder-glare salute to the crowd. Fight was useless like all goon fights are but the salute made me smile.

1. The kids getting their shot and producing.
2. Bouwmeester getting traded.
3. Feaster sticking it to the media on the Iggy trade, even though it was the trade they prefered.
4. Kipper's ovation at the dome. Deserved for the true pillar of the franchise for the last decade.
5. Blake Comeau getting traded. Should be number one but there were far more entertaining things that happened this season. Good riddance.

1. The excitement after the 1st period of the season
2. Young guys owning the Oilers and pushing them to make a bonehead front office move
3. Kippers (most likely) last win on home ice
4. Iggy's last goal as a Flame
5. The rookies coming up and playing well
Other than that. What a nightmare season.

I think one of my favourite moments was the tick-tac-toe passing play by Stajan-Hudler-Cevernka near the beginning of the season. I hadn't recalled seeing such a nice goal in a long time as a Calgary Flames fan.

1. Mikkas last hurrah
2. sven barcheezi/brodie/backlunds development
3. the first game vs Chicago where we played them really well but came up short
4. flames play in general post trade deadline
5. having one of the worst seasons in recent memory and yet still being better than the oilers, who were hailed as cup contenders

In no particular order
1. Mcgrattan salute
2. Sven getting called back up and finishing the season strong (on pace for 41 points in a full season).
3. Beating the Oilers with all of our young guys, pretty much ending the Oilers playoff hopes.
4. Max Reinhart proving that he will be a solid NHL player
5. Kipper salute
And soon to have 3 new first round talents in the organization.

1) The standing ovation for Kiprusoff. Last game in Calgary or not, that was amazing.
2) Peter Maher and the media at the Iginla trade. But especially Maher almost breaking up after being able to get the last statement.
3) The classic Iginla goal and last as a Flame when he powered through Redden and Halak
4) Not really a moment, but the all-star play of the big NCAA prospects the Flames have. It really gives some hope for the future.
5) McGrattan's first fight as a returning Flame.

Not all specific moments, but "things"
1. Miikka's last two games, the last one especially.
2. Backlund proving he's part of the solution going forward
3. Brodie making my rethink my previously "optimistic" 3/4 ceiling for him
4. When Sven Got His Groove Back
5. Maximus

The answers have been great. I completely forgot about the McGrattan salute after wrecking Sestito. That was awesome.

1. Bouwmeester no longer wearing a Flames jersey.
2. Comeau no longer wearing a Flames jersey.
3. Miikka's last glove save at home.
4. Backlund developing into a great player at both ends of the rink.
5. Brodie grabbing his spot by the throat as our best d-man after starting the season as a healthy scratch.
6. Baertschi finishing the year with a 7 game point streak. (Hopefully 8 tonight)

1) Max Reinhart's goal - he's a friend of mine and it was special seeing him pot one
2) Brodie - has looked nothing short of brilliant, especially after Bouw was traded
3) Trading of Iginla to the Pens - my favourite Flame of all-time, hope he wins with Pitt
4) Oilers missing playoffs - not really a part of the Flames' season but it was as satisfying as anything else
5) Rookies - impressed with all of them

1. Kippers ovation in last home game, the whole last 2mins to his 3 stars skate.
2. Come back win, I think it was against the Coyotes, maybe the wild. Iggy tied it, Glencross scored the winner.
3. What ended up being Iggy's last goal against the Blues.
4. McGrattan's salute
5. Backlands attempt at sticking up for Glencross.
