Well... I hope I never have the opportunity to go up to the press box. That's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. I mean, c'mon, it freakin' swings! Eff that.

Crossing the catwalk is probably one of the most terrifying things you can experience, especially if you're going across and the flares go off.

I would love to have an actual tour of all of what those two videos just presented. I know a few years ago they used to give tours of the building. Do they still do them?

You definitely win. I'm getting a mental image of a crutch falling down to the playing surface and hitting a player in the head.

Great post. I wonder how some of the newer buildings look? I've honestly never noticed the Saddledome's age...until I saw what was behind the scenes.
Also why is there a picture of a prepubescent Iggy on the wall?? rofl

I did a walk about for GM Place the other night which I haven't done for awhile. It is pretty impressive what goes on behind the scenes for sporting events, the amount of people and coordination involved is immense. Lights, music, announcers, give aways, in-house and tv broadcasts. There's lots going on.
Being up on the catwalk above the scoreboard is something else, you really get a sense of just how big the scoreboards are and how large the arenas really are. You are a long way up there. Last time I was up there was to install the over head goalie cams, having to strapped in and stuff was fun, hope you don't have a fear of heights.
Only service people are allowed up on the catwalks though and you're not suppose to have anything loose on your persons. Our media level is 500.

Yes, going across the catwalk to the press box is a bit frightening. My husband and I were able to watch one game from the press box a few season ago and my knees got pretty wobbly when I stopped midway and peered down inside the scoreboard to the ice.

Got to watch a bunch of the WJC games from the press box last year. It is actually an awesome perspective to watch a game from. Gives you a better appreciation of how the radio/TV guys have to keep pace with the play.
I know you were joking, but if you get the chance, take it.

Wow, actually really shows just how old the saddledome is. Comparing the Flames player facilities to the Penguins is night and day.
