#34 is Kipper. No one else.

Of course it will be retired/"Forever a Flame". Does anyone actually think this will not happen?

AUTOMATIC. Yes. Without a doubt the best goalie this franchise has ever had.

I still don't like the "Forever a Flame" business which feels like a half-hearted gesture. If Lanny & Vernon got officially "retired" then other players of merit (Kipper, Iginla, etc.) should also be retired.

The other thing I am pondering is if Iginla's exit vs. Kiprusoff's exit will change their legacy.
Kiprusoff gets to go out with two straight wins at home and a standing ovation and Iginla got tied up in the Boston/Pittsburgh/Calgary mess and didn't get a proper ending to his CGY career.

Why can't this wait until he officially retires? All this internet talk crap and morons like eric francis writing about it all the time doesn't help if he is actually thinking about it.
Maybe we should have a poll if my aunt had balls would she be my uncle?

I say yes, but he won't agree to it. Kipper does not like the spotlight, and will not want to participate in the ceremony and speech that generally takes place.

The worst case scenario is probably Iginla pulling a Modano and signing for a day to officially retire a Flame in front of the crowd.

Is the "forever a flame" for players that were really good, but not quite up to retiring # status?
Or is it instead of retiring #
Kipper's 34 should be retired.

Flames have had many really wonderful players (from the 80's mostly) play through the organization. They retired 2 only, even though there has been more in the HHOF.
The requirements are very stringent. Success + Other Factors it seems.
Kipper has never won a cup in Calgary. Does that still make him a retirement case? Does Jarome? I would say yes to the both of them, considering how much they helped this team and how they helped to turn this team completely around for a number of years. They also both hold some of the most important team records.
Retirement worthy in my opinion.

100% yes; although this discussion shouldn't be taking place until an actual retirement announcement takes place. I wouldn't mind a season of Kipper in net backing up the young guys.

Anything less would be the wrong decision from the franchise. None of that 'Forever A Flame'. Full scale jersey retirement for the greatest goalie in the club's history.

When he does actually retire, for sure. Seeing a #34 in a Flames uniform that isn't Kiprusoff would just be wrong. Same goes for a #12 that isn't Iginla.

We've never had another #14 that's not Fleury right? There doesn't technically have to be a full blown retirement if there are unwritten rules.
That said, Iginla and Kipper should definitely be up there.
I'm still torn on Fleury being retired but he should at least be a "Forever a Flame" (that name is still lame)

Kippers 34 should be retired, I still feel sick #2 wasn't, lets hope the boys upstairs don't make the same mistake.

He's better than Vernon.
Cup or no Cup, his # should be officially retired.
